Ryan smirked right back at her, sending her a look before she disappeared back into the house. Prodding his horse on, he figured he'd see her again. He was sure.

Lillian hid herself away in her bedroom until dinner that night. She really had no urge to see anyone, including Ryan.

But when she emerged in her stunning pink silk dress, ready for dinner, she found herself refreshed and eager for socializing.

[Specs]

His family was always full of surprises. Ryan was set on a quiet night, maybe even catch up on some reading. His plans were trumped, however, when his parents informed him that they would have dinner at the Wellsley mansion. Although he initially opposed the idea, he couldn't help but smirk, surprisingly glad to have another chance to see Lillian that day.

Stepping into their mansion with his family in tow, Ryan's eyes searched for Lillian, wondering where she possibly could be.

Lillian was engaged in conversation by - who else? - Lord Westcliff. Apparently his new mission in life was to break off Lillian's engagement to Ryan and win her heart. He was nothing short of attentive, complimenting her every two minutes and making sure she was comfortable, happy, etc etc.

Ryan finally spotted her not too far away, talking to Lord Westcliff. He felt his anger rise when he saw the two together. He wanted nothing more than for him to leave the mansion as soon as possible. Excusing himself from his family, he made a beeline for the pair.

Once he reached them, he bowed and put on his most charming smile. "Lady Wellsley," he said genuinely before clearing his throat to look at Lord Westcliff. "And Lord Westcliff."

Lord Westcliff bowed quickly back in return and replied before Lillian even had a chance to open her mouth.

"Mr. Lane. I didn't know you were coming tonight." He cleared his throat and glanced at Lillian.

[Specs]

"As Lady Wellsley's fiancee," started Ryan, a smirk on his face. "I have every right to be here. Besides, my family is her family now."

[Tag Along]

Lord Westcliff simply looked at Ryan as if to say 'Not for long, buddy.'

Lillian finally spoke up before anyone else could. "Mr. Lane, didn't you mention earlier you wanted to show me something in the garden? I believe we have enough time before supper for a quick trip."

[Specs]

"Of course," smiled Ryan, offering his arm to her before smirking at Lord Wellsley. "I've been wanting to show you this for sometime."

Lillian placed her hand firmly on Ryan's arm and immediately went to the nearest door.

Once they were outside and out of earshot of anyone, Lillian sighed with relief. "I never thought I'd say this, but am I glad to see you. Lord Westcliff was practically smothering me with attention. I don't know what he's playing at..."

[Specs]

"He's just jealous," said Ryan, glancing over at Lord Westcliff (who seemed very upset). Placing his arm around Lillian's waist to pull her closer, Ryan grinned happily.

"I'm definitely glad to see you though."

"Oh, are you?" She replied, smirking. The sun was setting and casting its red, orange, and pink light over the Wellsley gardens.

[Specs]

"Would I lie to you?" teased Ryan, his eyes completely focused on hers. It was amazing how captivated he was by her. Why didn't he see it before?

((Quite a bit tipsy because of too much wine. Had a house party and things are winding down!))

Lillian didn't actually know if Ryan would ever lie to her, but she decided not to voice this thought.

"Ryan, I'm very confused." She said instead, her forehead wrinkled.

Ryan looked at her in confusion, pulling back just slightly.

"About what?" he asked sincerely.
