Copper was on his own in Central Park, selling papers. What else? It was just another day and he was already in another mindless routine. Sooner or later, he needed to shake things up.
Preferably sooner.
He headed towards groups of families picnicking by the pond, charming smile already poised on his face. He wasn't kidding with Jack -- he had a gift of persuasion.

Having spent all potential betting money on Sapphy, Race was selling in Central Park today instead of Sheepshead. The families picnicking by the pond were eating up the headlines--he barely even had to improve. And he'd made friends with Ershey last night. He was in a good mood.
And no smiling redhead who hated his guts was going to ruin it. "Hey, Copper," he said with a cheerful nod. After weeks of brooding over Sapphy's brother, this was his master plan--be relentlessly pleasant.

"Are you gonna do card tricks?"
"Not today, kid. I don't actually get paid for that, y'know."
She pouted and walked away.

"Ya should do a card trick for Sapphy," Copper said in a way that Race would be treading on dangerous ground by how he answered. "She'll probably be so fucking charmed she'd fall over from quickly trying to get her clothes off for you."
It was kind of true. Sapphy had a weird connection to magic and card tricks.
