"Whatever happens, it'll be alright..." He whispered to her and then sighed heavily.

Beth looked away awkwardly. "Well, I better get home and think of something to tell Jo. She's been asking after you for months," she admitted to Tristan. "I think she's been sneaking over and playing with the kids when you was out. I'll go talk to Archer as soon as Alec gets back...and if you clear outta here, just send someone trustworthy to let us know where you are."

"Don't worry you'll know where we are somehow. If it gets to that." He said solemnly.

Macbeth nodded to him and Nevada, thinking what a very strange relationship she had with this family, and left the apartment. She made her way home and found the place eerily quiet, which worried her until she found Jo curled up on the couch with a book of faerie tales. She came over and sat beside Jo, and her niece looked up at her.
"Beth?"
"Yeah, kiddo?" Beth put an arm around her, and Jo snuggled against her side.
"Is Dad gonne be all right?"
Beth sighed "I dunno, jan. I hope so. Want me to read to you till Alec gets home?"
Jo nodded and handed her the book, acting unusually quiet and subdued, and Beth kissed her head and sat there reading story after story and watching the door for her...roommate/friend/lover...whatever the hell Risk was, she just wanted him here.

Laced Dragon was a mess. Risk walked in, acting as if he wanted to relax for the day but the minute he stepped inside, someone told him they were closing the place for the day. He was able to gather as much that they were still trying to deal with the bodies and how to hind them from the cops. He knew the police would hear about it soon enough, they always do.
Opening the door, Risk let out a sigh and smiled upon seeing Jo and Beth curled up on the couch. "How are my two favorite ladies?"

Macbeth looked up at him and smirked, hiding her relief. "Ladylike, as always," she said, even as Jo launched herself off the couch and threw her arms around Risk.
"Alec, guess what! We're reading the one where the birds peck the stepsisters' eyes out and the bad lady has to dance herself to death in the red-hot shoes!"
"That's our Jo, ruthless and bloodthirsty," Beth said, going over to them and ruffling her niece's hair. "But I think she's got some homework to do. In her room. Ain't that right, hon?"
Jo gave her a mutinous look, met with a classic Aunt Beth glare, and reluctantly retreated to her bedroom. Beth's expression turned grim. "So how'd it go?"

"It's a mess there," sighed Risk, collapsing on the couch. "I got there a few minutes before they decided to close the place for the day. Everyone's out of their minds because of what Tristan pulled."

"Well, yeah...mass murder'll do that." Beth sat down beside him. "I wish we didn't have to get mixed up in this. If he wasn't Jo's dad..." She shook her head. "So the bulls don't know what happened yet? 'Sides you, I mean," she said with a slight smirk.

"I left right when they were arriving," answered Risk. "They'll get all the details by tomorrow, I'm sure. I could do some more snooping that way... I really do hope Tristan and Nevada follow our advice."

She nodded. "They ain't gonna be safe at home." She paused, hugging herself rather miserably. "We gotta go to Five Points," she reminded him, sounding as if she would much rather fight a team of ninjas or drink laundry detergent.

Risk sighed, putting an arm around Macbeth's shoulder and pulling her close. "We'll go when you're ready, alright?" And I'll be there with my gun.

Beth dropped her usual prickliness like an unwanted garment and leaned her head on his shoulder. At this point, she could have gladly cuddled all night, but... "Honestly, if we can get someone to come watch Jo, I'd rather get it over with. The sooner we do it, the sooner we can put all this behind us."

"I can ask Adrianne to watch her," said Risk, glancing at Macbeth. "She and Teddy love Jo, y'know that."

"'Course." Beth sighed. "You should tell her what's going on, too. I'll go talk to Jo." She stood up reluctantly and went to her niece's door, then glanced over her shoulder at him. "I just hope Archer ain't changed much. I mean, it's been years..." Shaking her head, she disappeared into Jo's room.
((Archer Klein is actually a full-fledged character of mine, so I'm kind of excited for this, haha.))

Risk wouldn't have minded to save all this for another day. But with the way things were going, he wasn't going to argue with Macbeth. He definitely wanted to get this off his plate and done with as soon as possible. After a brief phone call with Ershey, it was settled that Jo would spend the rest of the day at his sister's.
"She can even spend the night there," said Risk as he called out to Macbeth. "You never know how long this might take."
