"Wait, uh, Macbeth!" whispered Risk loudly. He curled his hand into a fist, frustrated that she left him there alone. Well, not exactly alone...
"Do you need help?" asked Ershey with concern.
"I, uh..." muttered Risk, looking down at the ground. Maybe it'd be best if he just came out with it. "Ersh, I have to tell you somethin'..."
"Yeah?"
Risk gulped. "I'm... uh, your brother, Alec." He felt the hallway begin to swirl, nausea kicking in. The next thing he knew, he fell on the floor.

Beth was almost to her bunk when she heard the thunk. And the words that came before it. She stood there, shocked and baffled, throbbing and sick and miserable, wanting to kill everything, and let out a groan of frustration, and marched right back to Ershey and the prone Risk. "He's your what now!?"

"Alec," said Ershey softly, grabbing Macbeth's arm. "It's Alec! He's Alec... shit, it's him! He's my brother."
All she could do was stand there and point at Risk's poor unconscious body on the floor.

Beth closed her eyes. "How is this why I don't even..."
After a long moment and a heroic struggle, she pulled the last of her wits together and opened her eyes. "He's your brother. Right. Sure. How did we not know this till now?" Shaking her head in bewilderment, she stooped down and grabbed Risk's arms. "C'mon. Bed," she grumbled, indicating that Ershey should grab his legs, and jerking her chin at the bunkroom. They could discuss this once there were fluffy pillows involved.

"Right, uh, okay," muttered Ershey as she grabbed his legs. They both hobbled their way towards the boys' bunkroom, clumsily carrying him up the stairs and into the hallway.
((Awww, poor girls hahahah))

((Poor Risk! If I were evil beyond measure, I'd have Wraith send Mush after him right now. ^_^))
Feeling like her arms were going to come out of their sockets, Beth helped Ershey heave Risk onto a bottom bunk--whimpering pitifully the whole time-- and then climbed in beside him and hid under the covers. "Ersh? You can now sit here and vent to me very quietly, but only because I love you."

Ershey looked at Macbeth skeptically. "We're goin' to have a conversation under the covers with Risk in bed?"

"You do not have to come under the covers. I, however, am comfortable here."

Ershey cringed. "I'd rather not when Al -- er, Risk is there..." she muttered, her eyes scanning for Mush.

Macbeth peeked out of the covers and gave her a sharp look. "I feel like we have some catching up to do." Heaving another sigh, she forced herself out of bed again. "Roof? There's air on the roof. Moving air," she said wistfully.

"I like air," nodded Ershey willingly, glad to see that Mush was still fast asleep. She made a beeline for the hallway, not even looking back to see whether Macbeth was behind her.

Macbeth followed, begrudging every step, until they'd climbed out the window, up the fire escape, and onto the roof. Then she lay on her stomach, face buried in her arms to shield it from the sun, as a blessedly cool breeze washed over her. "Well, Ershey," her muffled voice announced. "Being back in New York? 'Bout what I expected."
After a brief silence, she added, "So, Alec. Your long-lost brother. Is Risk. Meaning you're the sister he was separated from back in the Bronx when 'something bad' happened, only I couldn't get him drunk enough to tell me what. So maybe you can enlighten me. And possibly mention why you're so nervous about being around him."

Ershey laid down next to Macbeth, gazing up at the clouds as she tried to put her thoughts together.
"Why didn't I notice it before?" muttered Ershey to herself. Sighing, she looked over at Macbeth. "We used to live in the Bronx. My Dad was abusive... well, as far as I know or remember. He used to be a big hotshot cop at the Bronx. People looked up at him. He was respected... then he met my Mom. She didn't exactly have the best job in the world -- she met him when she was workin' as a prostitute. So you can kinda guess what happened when she said she was pregnant with Alec. 'Course, Dad favored him -- but everyone else hated us... and it made him hate all of us even more. Except for Alec. He was perfect..."
Ershey paused, covering her face with her hands as she tried to keep calm. "And I wasn't. I looked like my Mom... I reminded him too much of her. My Dad drove her out... and Alec became different. He was cruel and horrible and hated everythin' that came in his way, even me... so I ran away. And I haven't seen him since I was about 10 or 11..."

Macbeth wasn't generally much for physical affection when she was sober, but she rolled onto her side and put a hand on Ershey's arm. "I'm sorry, Ersh...never knew the whole story. You want me to soak him?" She was totally serious.
