Ershey was fuming. She didn't want Alec to do this right now. She'd wanted to at least have the opportunity to talk to Mush, but here he was running his mouth off...
"She became my punching bag. I'd be drinking and come home... she'd wait for me and make sure our parents didn't see what I was doing. She wanted to help me 'cause she was my little sister but I didn't understand, then. And when you're drunk, you don't think clearly. I hit her too hard and, one day, she didn't come back." He glanced at Ershey, who was fiddling with her hands. "And I came here to look for her."

"Yeah, you and about half the newsies in the house." Where the heck was he going with this? And why did Ershey look so nervous/angry?

Risk ignored his comment and continued. "And now, I'm trying to make up for things. I want to see her again and show her how much I've grown, and that I really am the big brother she could have." He paused glancing at Ershey.
"Her name's Adrianne."

((No prob!! <3 IE fail... hahah))
"Her name's Adrianne," repeated Risk. "And she's sitting right next to you."
Ershey refused to look at either one of them, her eyes locked on her hands.

Mush rested his chin in the palm of his hand, staring at a spot on the wall.
"You want to give him a second chance, Ersh?" He asked, finally, though he didn't meet her eyes.

Ershey looked at Mush in surprise, amazed that he didn't reach over the table and knock Risk's head out.
"I, uh... er, well..." she stammered, caught off guard. Risk was on the edge of his seat, waiting patiently. "I d-don't know..."

'Well... I'll try my best to keep out of your decision." He said quietly.
"But I have to say, I'm pretty relieved I don't have to worry about you tryin'a steal her away from me." He glanced at Risk.

Risk let out a sigh of relief. "Really? We're okay now?" He didn't think it was going to be this easy.

Mush laughed.
"No way. After hearing how you treated her? Nuh uh."

Risk frowned. "Oh.... but are we better than before?"
Ershey, however, simply wanted to go home. This wasn't how she imagined things would end up and she was still undecided about what to do with Risk.

Mush glanced at Ershey, noticing that she had been very quiet and looked like she didn't want to be there.
"Maybe just... Gimme some time to think about everything. Let's go, Ersh."

"I'll, uh... I'll pay," nodded Risk as he stayed in his seat and watched the two go. Ershey quietly followed Mush, refusing to let go of his hand.

Once they were outside and out of Risk's earshot, Mush turned to Ershey.
"You all right?"

"I don't know," she said quietly, shrugging. "I just didn't think..."
