Feeling the warmth of sunshine on his face, Risk groaned and pulled up the covers. All he wanted to do was sleep. Then again, his pounding headache wasn't helping at all. He cuddled his pillow, trying to look for some comfort as he recalled last night. He knew there was Macbeth and some dancing involved, drinking water on the couch, then Wraith... and Ershey.
Shit. Risk's eyes snapped open. Did he just...?
"Shit!" he muttered under his breath, immediately sitting up and causing another wave of pain from his headache.

((Love the title. And I'm really sorry that I'm about to make his day even worse.))
Macbeth peered into the boys' bunkroom, made sure there was no one there but Risk, marched in, and sat down on the bunk next to his, arms crossed, glaring ferociously. "We need to have a talk."

((Risk's worst week EVER.))
"Really?" muttered Risk, glancing over at her as he held his head in his hands. "Right now?"

"Yeah, right now," Macbeth confirmed, "so you can't go all Mr. Hyde on me. Ershey says you do that. So, first question: why'd you come here looking for her after all this time?"

"Mr. Who?!" said Risk, looking at Macbeth in utter confusion. He didn't need this right now, not when he just woke up with a hangover. He still needed to piece last night together and Macbeth was already here interrogating him.

Macbeth sighed deeply. She regularly forgot that not all street kids shared her literary tastes. "Forget it. Just tell me why you came looking for Ershey. And don't look at me that way, you think I wanna be doing this now? I would much rather be in bed, or in the infirmary, or putting a bullet in my own head to stop the pain. But my best friend is fucking scared of you, so here I am."

"Why would you..." he started before finally putting the pieces together. Adrianne wouldn't have sent Macbeth if she didn't tell her anything, which only meant that Macbeth knew how he was before... and which meant that Adrianne clearly didn't want to be anywhere near him. "So... you know?"
((Sorry, love! My roomies distracted me!!!))

((Roomies are distracting creatures! I know it well.)) "I know enough," Beth snapped. "I don't know how much you remember of last night, but there was this one part where I mentioned your probable lifespan if you made any trouble for Ershey. Well, she's troubled, and she wants to know what the hell you're doing here, so spill. It ain't that hard a question."

He knew there was no escaping the issue considering how determined Macbeth was to find out what he was trying to do. Sighing, he turned to face her.
"I feel bad, alright?" he said, his walls finally breaking down. "I hate how she left... and I still do. It shouldn't have happened. I mean, sure, I got caught in bad shit but I turned that around and I work as a -- er, something better that's liked by the government. I want to turn things around. Is that so hard to believe?"

"Yes," said Macbeth scornfully. She of all people would sooner believe in unicorns and dragons than anyone genuinely striving to be a better person."If that's all it is, why didn't you tell her who you was from the start?"

Risk cleared his throat nervously. If he wasn't undercover, he would've come out with the truth altogether from the start but he was working... and his job was on the line if everyone found out. Wraith was already one of them and he definitely didn't want things to get around, not when he still hadn't found who killed Ericson.
"...'Cause I was scared," he said hesitantly. "And we haven't seen each other when we were ten, so... uh, I didn't exactly recognize her right away."

"But you just woke up one day and realized it was her?" Beth said skeptically. Something about this whole thing was fishy. Hell, what wasn't fishy about long-lost evil brothers? "Well, anyway, she don't want nothing to do with you, so you might as well go do your government-approved work someplace else." All right, Ershey hadn't exactly said all that, but Macbeth was in full-on protective mode. She couldn't even look at Jekyll-Risk now without seeing the potential for Hyde-Risk lurking beneath the surface.

"I had to look for her first and make sure, dammit!" he muttered angrily. "I wasn't about to go up to some random girl and say, 'Oh hey, I'm your long lost brother that you hate. Just wanted to let you know.' And who are you to say what Ershey wants to do, huh? Last time I checked, she's capable of doing things for herself."
It was then that he realized that this was the second person in the lodging house that was protective of Adrianne. This was going to be tough.

"Yeah, and she told me herself that she don't wanna talk to you, or we wouldn't be spending this lovely bloody afternoon together. And if I'm remembering last night correctly, her boyfriend hates you too, so good luck even getting near her." She might not be able to kick him out of the lodging house, but she could certainly help make his stay there as miserable as possible. "Oh, and if you're really in the mood to share, what the hell were you doing under the stairs with that girl at seven in the morning?"
Yeah, she had decided she wasn't hallucinating.

"She helped me find her, alright?" he confessed, figuring it couldn't hurt to tell her that bit of truth. "I don't know a lot of newsies around here... or people, so I had to ask for help. I know for a fact that she's stealthy enough to at least pinpoint who it'd be. I just didn't think she'd be right here."
He hated having to explain himself, especially to Macbeth, who he just met the other day. He knew she was going to be on his ass for being so secretive, but he couldn't very well tell her everything.
