Race was taking a break from drama--his own and everyone else's. Things had been looking up lately. He and Sapphy were in a good place. Copper was possibly not the Antichrist. He hadn't heard of any recent explosions between Spot and Raven or Mush and Ershey. No serious trouble brewing in the lodging house these days. As far as Race knew.
He talked Weasel into spotting him his papes and leaned against a wall to scan the headlines and puff on his cigar.

Risk lazily grabbed his papers from Weasel, hating how he still had to put up this "newsie charade." For once in his life, he didn't want to be undercover. His hangover wasn't as horrible anymore yet Risk was still worried about the whole Adrianne situation. He didn't know what to do when she had people blocking his way everywhere. Lost in thought, Risk walked down the steps, not looking forward to selling today.

Race glanced up automatically as someone walked by, then realized who he was. The guy he'd practically carried back to the lodging house last night. "Hey there! Feeling better?" he said cheerfully, not sure if Risk would even remember him.

Why is everyone talking to me today??
"Huh?" mumbled Risk as he turned around to see who could possibly be talking to him.

"We met last night...sorta. I gave you water," Race said helpfully. "Sorry if I interrupted something there..." The kid looked kind of dazed. Well, that was the morning after for you.

Risk stared at Race, trying his best to remember last night. "I remember drinking water..." he started, then suddenly remembered a glimpse of his drunkenness. "Oh shit, were you the one that helped us get back home?"

"One of 'em," Race smirked. "Me and Ershey. You were the nice one, your girl was kinda violent..." He back still ached a little.

"She's not my girl!" groaned Risk, rolling his eyes. He asks a girl out for a drink and this is what happens. "Er, uh... thanks for helping, anyway. We would've ended up on the sidewalk if you didn't come along."

"You two couldn't seem to agree on that," Race informed him. "Anyway, I might have to just ignore you and pretend she is." He paused. "That's an inside joke involving me and a friend of mine and an Italian waitress...uh, never mind. And don't worry about it. I'm Racetrack Higgins, by the way." He offered a hand.

Risk simply stared at him in confusion as the Italian newsboy kept on talking.
"Oh, uh, Risk," he said, shaking his hand.

He nodded. "Ershey told me." He headed toward the street, seeing as how he did have to sell his papers. "So, been here long? Just 'cause I never met you or that girl before...thought Ershey might've just run into youse on the street," he admitted.

"Not too long," explained Risk. "A couple weeks, maybe? Ershey's real good friends with Macbeth -- er, the other girl, so I'm guessing that's why she helped us out. I haven't, uh, really talked to Ershey much."

"Ershey's great," said Race obliviously. "She's dating a real good friend of mine..." Who thinks you hang around her too much. Which made Risk's claim that he hadn't talked to Ershey much kind of odd. Argh, he did not want to be puzzling over things like this right now. "Anyway, that Macbeth girl seems like a character."
He called out a headline about Wall Street burning down. A good number of folks pounced on it, despite the fact that they'd be able to see the smoke from here. You could always trust in the stupidity of the general public.

"Yeah, she definitely is... wait, that guy's your friend?" said Risk in surprise. Maybe there was some hope left for him after all.

"Yeah, and I already told Ershey I'd talk to him," Race said, figuring Risk was on the verge of asking him to. "She said he's been kinda...jumpy lately."
