"You would," said Race. He was pretty sure neither Spot nor Rae even believed in safe words. "You realize you're lending this to me when you're done, right?"

"Definitely! Not like I can really do this book any justice at the moment," She looked at the position they were currently studying, then down at her large belly and then at Race.
"yep, not happening."

((I had a pregnancy dream last night. It was horrifying. I blame Rae.))
"Just wait it out," Race said kindly, patting her arm. "And don't worry about Tag. When she gets back, I'll say that her books have gone to serve noble causes."

Raven laughed, "I'm waiting it out! I'm waiting it out as much as I can," She looked down at her belly. "You hear me? I'm waiting...waiting until you're ready okay? Hurry up."

Race gave her a reproachful look. "Aww, don't listen to her, kiddo! Take your time. This world's a terrible place full'a thieves and murderers and poor folks and hunger and sadness..." He thought for a moment. "...and spaghetti and meatballs and poker and horse races and lazy days in the park...on second thought, get the hell outta there!"

Raven laughed, "That's right, listen to Uncle Race, he knows what he's talking about." She gave her belly a tender pat and smiled. "Seriously though, I'm about to burst."

"You're gonna send someone to get me, right? 'Cause someone's gotta be there to make sure Spot don't pass out or go into hysterics or something." Plus, childbirth was dangerous and he was pretty damn worried about her.

"Course I am," She took his hand and gave it a squeeze. "You have to be there! It wouldn't feel right if you weren't." She smiled and then bit her lip. "Plus...I'm starting to get nervous, pain I can handle It's just," she swallowed hard. She'd heard about women dying all the time giving birth and she wasn't ready to die.

He covered her hand with both of his and looked at her seriously. "Mia, with all you've gotten through, there's no way a little baby's gonna beat you. You'll be fine. And I'll be there if I gotta run across the bridge at three in the morning." He gave her belly a stern look. "Though I'd appreciate a more convenient hour, ya hear?"

"You better or I'll be so mad at you. I mean really mad at you, madder than that time you let Sharkey think I was the one who cheated, meanwhile you were cheater and you nearly got me killed." She smirked at him and then gave him as best a hug as she could. "besides, somebody's gotta keep Spot calm."

"I would've saved you if you didn't sweet-talk him out of it!" he insisted. "I didn't have that option. And don't worry...not only will I be there, but for once in my life, I won't do everything I can to drive Spot crazy."

"You're the best," Raven said and she really meant it. She kissed his cheek.

"I know. I'm pretty amazing." He smirked. "But you know you'd do the same for me. If I was in your position, which, thank God, I never will be." He crossed himself at the very thought.

Raven laughed, "Oh, course I would. I'll be there when you have kids anyway, just so I can remember the look on your face."

Race caught himself wondering whether Sapphy would want kids someday, and had to remind himself sternly that they weren't married or engaged or anywhere near thinking of such things. "You will be the worst godmother ever. But I wouldn't ask anyone else," he said with a smile.
((Gonna go be productive! I shall return.))
