Beth pushed her way out the door, slamming it behind her and blocking Risk's access to it. "'Cause he--" She stabbed a finger at Race, who had slumped against the railing and looked halfway to passing out. "--is too fucked up to talk, and 'cause I have no doubt this was your idea anyway, and, oh--" She lowered her voice, but not in a calm way. "--'cause I ain't forgotten that you're completely fucking shady and prob'ly have goddamn Mob connections or something.
"And I ain't said anything to Ershey yet 'cause she's actually seemed happy lately, and also 'cause I've been distracted with my own bloody problems, but if you don't spill everything to her or me in the next twenty-four hours, I'm gonna tell her everything I know because I can't fucking deal with this now."

"Uh, um..." muttered Risk, his feet frozen to the ground as he stared blankly at Macbeth. Normally, he would've thought of something witty to say but the alcohol prevented him from processing too much information. For the first time, he was actually scared of Macbeth and didn't know what to do.
"R-Race?"

Race shifted. Opened his eyes and blinked a few times. Raised his head far enough to see a frightened-looking Risk and someone else who he initially took for a raging demon before he realized it was Macbeth.
"They shouldn't've done it," he muttered. "But...I guess they thought they didn't have a choice, you know? You feel all trapped when...when you can't trust anyone...I mean, when cops go crooked...it's like Jack and Snyder, y'know? You get desperate. But at least it's over now..." He shook his head sadly at Risk and Macbeth and buried his face in his arms again.
Macbeth stared at him, open-mouthed, before whirling on Risk. "What in hell is he talking about?"
((I think this is the first thread in which I can say that Race fails so hard.))

((Wooooow. Yes. Super fail. ><))
Risk's jaw dropped. His hunch was true. He was right and his sister... and Mush...
Shit. "Shit! Fuck! Damn!" shouted Risk as he started pacing back and forth, almost forgetting about Macbeth.

Beth stared at him, arms crossed, nerves shot, utterly exhausted, and still wanting to kill everyone in sight. On top of finding Jo's lunatic of a father, on top of Risk's deep, dark secrets, on top of Ershey coming home plastered, there was now something going on with bloody cops.
"I can see you've got a lot on your mind, Risk," she said with sarcastic courtesy. "And if you don't start telling me all about it, I swear to God, I might just kill you."

"Look, Beth," said Risk as he stopped pacing to look at her. "This is bad. This is really bad. It's more than getting drunk or having a couple newsies get in a fight... Adri might be in trouble. Real trouble... I mean, shit, and there's Mush too..."
He hurried over towards Race, grabbing him by the shoulders to steady him. "Race! What else do you know?" If he could possibly get her out of this trouble... if he could pull off something to have the other cops get off this case... then, maybe...

"That's a lost cause," Beth informed him, and it was. Race was out cold. The fact that Ershey might be in trouble, however, had gotten through to her. She grabbed Risk's arm and turned him around to face her. "Sit. Talk to me. All right? Whatever it is, we'll figure it out. I'm not gonna tell anyone your goddamn secrets. I don't care if you're a bleeding serial killer. Just sit down and tell me what the hell's going on."

Risk sighed, taking a seat on the steps and burying his head in his hands. "It's all a mess..." he muttered before looking up at Macbeth. "Have you ever heard of Detective Ericson?"

She sat down beside him and shook her head. She'd made a policy of avoiding the bulls, and besides, she'd been in London for the past year. "What about him?"

"He was killed a couple weeks ago," explained Risk, his eyes on the ground. "By a couple of kids. A couple of newsies."

She stared at him in silence for about ten seconds with an expression that clearly said, Oh, HELL no. "Are you telling me Ershey and her boyfriend killed a cop?"

Risk cringed inwardly. "...Along with a couple other newsies. They didn't do it themselves."

"Who? When? How?" she demanded in rapid succession, then waved all these questions away, as they were of lesser importance than the last one. "Why?"

"Ericson likes to take advantage of newsgirls... or, any type of girl for that matter," frowned Risk, wondering how Adri got caught up in this whole mess. Why would she get involved with Ericson? Unless...

"What the hell did he do to Ershey?" Macbeth asked immediately. "And how do you even know all this?" She'd heard Race's drunken ramblings. They had not been what you would call detailed.
