((I was listening to Taylor Swift this morning, and thought this would make a good AU thread!))
A smiling, bouncy Kathryn strolled down her driveway to fetch the day's mail. It was a seemingly regular day; she had just gotten home from a good day at work, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. She was in a lovely mood because of it. Her mood, however, changed when she sorted through the mail and saw it...
A wedding invitation. The wedding invitation she had been dreading. Her best friend was getting married. To an absolute witch. She knew it was coming (how could she not when she'd been there for him, helping him pick out the ring, and being as supportive as she could be?), but it still hit her like a ton of bricks.
She immediately fished her cell phone out of her purse and texted him. "Just got the invite! Yay!" She felt horrible lying to him, but what was she supposed to do? Well, she could vent and cry to her roommate, which is just what she did after hitting 'send.'

((Ooh, this could be interesting!))
Tyler felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, taking it out to read the text he'd received. It was from Kathryn. He stared down at the message for several moments before licking his suddenly dry lips. The last few weeks had been a whirl of wedding planning, and his head was spinning from it all. He hesitated as he texted back, then finally hit send.
"Hey, thanks...what are you doing tonight? Hang out?"

((Yay! I'm excited ;D ))
Her roommate, Victoria, had been in the middle of giving her wishy-washy advice ("If it were me, I'd want my best friend to tell me I was marrying a crazy person!" then, a minute later "If he really loves her, you should just let them be! See how it plays out!") when Kathryn received Tyler's text message. She raked her fingers through her hair and let out a frustrated sigh.
"Definitely. Tibby's @ 7?" Tibby's was their favorite coffee shop; they had been going there for years, and it always made Kathryn feel more at ease if her life was in ruins - like it was now.

"Tibby's at 7" He raked a hand through his hair, glancing at the clock. He figured he'd head out early, take his time. He needed to get out of the apartment. He had a fleeting thought that he was glad Sherry had wanted to wait until after the wedding to move in together. At least he still had his space. For now. He shook his head, trying to get the thoughts out of his head. He scowled and grabbed his jacket, shrugging it on before barreling out the door. ((Hey, I have a lunch/movie date with a friend of mine, but I'll try to post when I can. Otherwise, I'll be back in a few hours. I'm totally diggin' this thread ))

((Okay! I might be asleep - it's already 8:15pm here in SA! But we'll see.))
Kathryn opened the door to Tibby's at 7 o'clock on the dot, punctual as usual. She was glad to smell the comforting scent of coffee and cinnamon buns; it made her feel better about her decision not to tell Tyler what she really thought. She'd gone this long keeping quiet - why should she tell him now? The wedding invitations had already been sent out. There was no turning back now.
She saw Tyler sitting in their usual booth in the corner and plastered a friendly smile on her face. It had been a struggle for so long now trying to keep her true feelings from breaking through the surface, it had just become second nature.

Tyler was sitting, playing with a napkin, ripping it apart piece by piece. He was scowling, but wiped it from his face when he looked up and saw her. He slid out of the booth and smiled at her, immediately pulling her into his arms and into an embrace. He rested his chin on the top of her head. "Hey. Glad you came."

Immediately, Kathryn knew something was bothering him.
"Hey, what's up?" she asked in her inquiring tone of voice, her arms wrapped around his waist. If it had something to do with Sherry, she wasn't sure she wanted to hear about it.

He sent her a weak smile. "Aw, Sugar, ya always could see right through me." He moved away from her to slide back into the booth. He wasn't ready to tel her yet. Not just yet. "So, ya got the invite."

"Yep!" she replied cheerfully. She actually hadn't known whether or not she'd be getting one. Sherry kind of... Well, she hated Kathryn. And the feeling was mutual. But Sherry obviously realized how much Kathryn meant to her husband-to-be, so she had received one.
"It's very sophisticated. I'm assuming you had nothing to do with picking it out," she chuckled, shooting him a teasing smile.

He sent her an amused smirk. "What are ya talkin' about? I love lace." He couldn't hold back the low chuckle that escaped, and he couldn't hold back the fond look he gave her. No matter how upset or stressed out or mad he'd ever been in his life, Kathryn had always managed to pull him out of his moods. He sighed, then. "Jesus, Kat...I fuckin' hate lace." He raked a hand through his hair. "I hate pastels, I hate bowties, and I don't even know what gold filigree is, but I hate that, too."

"You don't hate any of it. Planning a wedding is stressful. You're just letting it get to you," she informed him in a matter of fact tone. "Let me get you a coffee, 'kay?" She stood up and approached the cashier standing behind the counter, ordering one regular coffee and one cinnamon latte.
She rejoined him in a flash, handing him his cup of coffee while she waited for her own. "If I remember correctly, you wore a bow tie to senior prom and thought it was the coolest thing. You did look quite dashing."

Tyler sighed and took the coffee with a nod of thanks. It was black, the way she knew he liked it. "It's not just cuz it's stressful. It's cuz it's just plain awful." He smirked, though, remembering prom. "And I only looked dashin' back then cuz I had a hot dame on my arm." He tilted his head in mock-thought. "Pretty sure her name was Kathryn." He sent her a smile, then sighed again and frowned down into his coffee.

Kathryn blushed, hating herself for doing so in front of him. It was times like this, when he said things like that, that made her wonder if maybe... But he had Sherry, and they were getting married. If he really meant those things he said, he would be marrying her right now, and not the Wicked Witch of the West Side.
"Okay, seriously. What's wrong? You never told me," she pointed out as the cashier brought out her drink. She cupped her hands around the mug and inhaled the cinnamon flavored steam emanating from it.
