Peace and quiet at last. The much in-demand and elusive Kennedy Blake was at the Brooklyn Lodging House, catching up on some sleep. The last few weeks had been insane and she finally was able to stole away.
The lodging house seemed to be the wisest choice -- no one around to ask her questions (unlike Manhattan's lodge) -- no baby to watch or an overprotective brother and sister figure.
Just. Sleep.

Wraith was usually good at finding people, but what good was that skill when you couldn't find the girl you'd been sleeping with for months? There had been no sign of Kennedy in Tristan's apartment, no sign in Manhattan, and while Kennedy had often gone on about her beloved grandmother, Wraith had realized she had no idea where the woman lived. She had wormed her way into Tristan's family largely to get closer to Kennedy, but lately she'd almost felt like she was taking her place.
Finally, it occurred to her to drop by Kennedy's old home, the place where they'd first met. Dodging curious eyes, she came into the bunkroom...and found her lover fast asleep in one of the beds. Dying to talk to her but not wanting to wake her up, she perched on the opposite bunk and quietly waited.

Kennedy wasn't in a deep sleep -- she felt someone watching her. She slowly fluttered her eyes open and locked her stare onto Wraith's.
"...Hey."

"Hey." She smiled hesitantly. "It's been a while. We've been worried." Well, she'd been worried. Tristan had been a little distracted lately.

"Sorry about that," she said, voice heavier than usual. She closed her eyes again for a few long moments, thinking. "What's new?"

"Er, well..." She thought about how to answer that. "There's an undercover cop in my lodging house. He doesn't seem as bad as I thought at first, though. Might actually be a decent guy, for a cop." She hesitated. "He kind of reunited me with a childhood...friend. Tara. I think you'd like her."
She almost mentioned Tristan's newfound daughter and upcoming custody battle, which still had her stomach in knots, but something about Kennedy's posture stopped her. "You all right? You look exhausted."

Wraith opened her mouth and found that she couldn't say anything for a moment. She hadn't seen that coming. "I'm so sorry, Kenny," she said softly.

"Yeah... Me too," she said softly. She turned away on her side, closing her eyes. She hadn't a real deep sleep in days.

"I'll-I'll just let you rest," Wraith offered, trying not to choke up; there were tears in her eyes just from seeing her eternally bouncy friend (girlfriend?) in this state. "I can come back later...or I can just stay here a while." She would have liked to be holding her tight right now, but people wanted different things when they were grieving. The best she could do was offer options.

"You should go. I'll just be sleeping," she murmured.

She nodded even though Kennedy couldn't see her. "Just...let me know if you need anything, all right? I'll be nearby." By which she meant sitting in the lobby worrying. Wraith had been through a lot of badness in her short life, but she'd never lost someone she loved. She felt helpless and generally awful.
