He actually snorted, smirking at her. "Ya moved to Russell County, Kentucky? Why the hell would anybody move here?" He held her by the arm to keep her steady. "Come on, let's get ya inside. It'll be dark soon, and it's freezin' out here." He led her across the yard to the two-story farm house his parents had owned since forever.

Rose suddenly remembered the most vital aspect of her plan.
"I really don't remember much of anything, Ty-- Mr. McGowan. I think I have temporary, partial amnesia." She followed him to the house, more steady on her feet than she expected.

He eyed her suspiciously, repeating slowly, "Temporary, partial amnesia...right..." He led her inside. "My folks are outta town. Aunt Ellen's havin' another baby, and they went to help for the week." He more or less pushed her into a chair, heading to the stove to heat a kettle of water.

When his back was turned, Rose took a deep breath, trying to tamp down a huge smile. This was 1949. Just after World War II. Oh my god. Oh my fucking god.
"Thank you so much for your hospitality," she said as she watched him put the kettle over the heat.

He glanced out the window as he made her a mug of tea. He might be a little gruff, but he was still his mother's son and she'd taught him well.
"Snow's startin' to come down hard. I probably won't be able to take ya home until the mornin'."

Well, that's good considering I don't know where 'home' is...
"Oh, that's all right. I'm there by myself, like you," she replied, studying the back of his head. He definitely looked like Tyler, but he didn't act like him. He wasn't as cheerful or friendly.

He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, pouring them both a mug of tea. He brought the tea to the table, sitting across from her. "Where'd ya move from?"

Rose replied with the first city that popped into her mind. "New York."
She'd always wanted to go to New York. Hopefully 1949 Tyler hadn't ever been there; it could get awkward if he asked questions she should know the answer to but didn't. She sipped at her tea, trying not to stare at him but failing miserably.
Wait a second... Didn't Tyler say he was named after his great uncle? So this must be him.

He raised a brow at her over the edge of his mug. "New York, huh? Never been. I sailed outta Norfolk when I shipped out overseas."

"So, you were in the war..." Rose replied, scooting to the edge of her seat and clutching her mug a bit tighter.

He arched another brow at her. "I'm 23. Of course I was in the war." He was 17 when he'd enlisted.

"What was it like?" she asked, staring at him. She didn't care if he thought she was creepy. She'd been waiting too long for this to happen. And it had.

He frowned at her. She looked overly excited with those big, bright blue eyes. Wait. Why was he playing attention to her eyes? "It was a war."

Rose nodded, waiting for more detail. More anything.

He just looked at her, frowning. He wasn't going to give her anything. Instead, he pushed his chair back to go to the fridge. "Ya hungry?"
