"How bout me and you make a deal?" He asked her and then smiled. "I have an extra room in my house outside of town...sometimes there's so much work up there I can't manage it all alone. Instead of paying me the gold you can work for me through the winter to pay it off. It'll be a big help."
He stepped over to his horse and gave him a nice rub down his neck. "Plus I got more horses up there, they need to be taken care of..."

Her brow furrowed deeper. "Are you sure? I won't get in your way at all?" She would love to be around him more, but she also would miss her family...

"Nope, not at all. It's kind of a big house for one person. My father left it to me when he passed on and I just don't have the heart to sell it." He shrugged and then smiled. "Besides, I already know you can cook. Decent meals would be nice."

"They talk enough about me. How I always keep to myself, don't wanna be bothered with nobody. There's a rumor I'm some outlaw on the run. None of it is true. I don't give a rat's ass what they think." He cupped her cheek in his hand and then kissed her softly.
"So? Is that a yes?"

"We can visit your family for a few weeks for the holidays too," He said and smiled at her. "If you want to," he quickly added, "Or you could go..." He had presumed that they would go together but honestly he had no idea of she'd want him to come with her.

"Okay," He kissed her back softly, wrapping his arms around her. He heard a throat clearing behind him. Jack still held Lillian in his arms and he glanced to look at who was standing there.
"Hello Toby," Jack said, "Can I help you?"
"Well...seeing as your back now sir, would you mind taking Snaps home? She's been downright ornery since you left."
"Can we talk about the cat later?" Toby scratched behind his head and then nodded.
"Sure...you uh...got any food for supper."
"I'll figure it out Toby..."

Lillian raised an eyebrow as she listened to the conversation that was taking place. Once Toby had gotten the message and left, she looked up at Jack. "...What was that about?"

"That's Toby, I pay him to run errands and stuff for me. I didn't know how long I was gonna be gone so I made him watch my cat. He hates Snaps..." Jack confessed. "She showed up at my door one day and wouldn't leave so I ended up keeping her."
