"Maggie's pregnant!" he exclaimed, immediately, almost screaming it. He was nervous, okay!

Maggie closed her eyes on a wince. "Oh, Jesus Christ, Michael..."
Maggie's father, Paul, pulled out of the hug to stare at her, blinking. "Magdalen..?" When Maggie nodded, his mouth set into a thin line, his jaw clenching. "And you were planning on tell me this when, exactly." It wasn't so much a question as a very quiet demand.
Maggie actually whimpered. "Oh, Daddy, I--" He didn't let her finish, just turned a pair of hard eyes on Mike.

His own family looked like they were battling between shock and excitement. Or at least his mother and sisters were. His cheeks turned bright red as Maggie glared at him. "Uh...my bad."

Maggie moved to Mike's side before her father could break him in half. Holding his arm, she looked at everybody. "I..I know this isn't really ideal, but...but we're happy, and we love each other and this is gonna be okay..." She looked at her dad. "Daddy, I promise. This is gonna be okay..."
Paul only looked at her, before barking at Mike: "Well. Are you gonna just stand there like a dope, or introduce yourself to your," and this he said pointedly with a firm and warning tone, "father-in-law?"
Maggie sighed, "Daddy..."

Michael gulped before stepping forward, his hand outstretched. "Sorry, sir, I'm Michael Bennett. Pleasure to meet you." He decided not to respond tithe 'father in law' part.

Paul stood to his full height. As tall as Michael was, he was still an inch taller. He shook his hand firmly. "You realize I don't approve of any of this?"
Maggie started to interject. "Daddy, please don't break his hand--"
Paul continued, still shaking hands with Mike. "But if you do your job, then we won't have any problems. You understand?"

Michael's dad, Liam, interjected. "Now look here Mr. Martin. Michael is a young, talented man with a very bright future as an athlete. We'd like everyone to keep that in mind."

Paul scoffed. "An athlete? One bum knee, and he's out of the game, permanently. And then what happens to my Maggie and her baby?
Maggie squeezed Mike's hand, looking like she might cry. She hissed at him, "Mike, do something!"

Oh god, he was certainly going to be killed in his sleep for this. "Dad, Mr. Martin, if I can just say something..." he didn't wait for them to reply. "Maggie and I are adults. We just graduated from college, I think we're extremely capable of deciding what we want to do..."

Maggie cut in. "Daddy, Mr. and Mrs. Bennett...I promise you that Mike and I are happy, and we want this baby, and we're going to raise it together."
Paul scoffed again, but didn't say anything right away. His brows knitting together as he frowned. "This is my fault. Wouldn't a' happened if you're mother was still around."
That effectively made Maggie burst into tears.

Michael immediately pulled her into his arms, rubbing her back. "Now there was no need for that, Mr. Martin," he said firmly.

Paul winced as soon as Maggie started to wail, looking genuinely shamefaced. "Magdalen...Maggie, honey...I'm sorry. I'm just disappointed in myself, is all."
Maggie pulled away from Mike to hug her father, sniffling. "Daddy, please. Just...just trust us, okay?"
Paul nodded, then sighed. "How 'bout you two go out and celebrate, huh? We'll do lunch tomorrow."

His parents nodded, his mother putting a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Yeah, I'd like that," Michael said softly, pulling Maggie back to him.

Paul moved to lean down and press his forehead to Maggie's. "I love you, Princess. No matter what. Ya know that, right."
Maggie leaned her head against Mike's shoulder, arm sliding around his waist as she nodded and smiled at her dad. "I know, Daddy."
Paul smiled back at her, then cleared his throat, sticking his hand out at Mike. "I, uh, apologize for my poor reaction. You're a good man, son. And it really is a pleasure to meet you."

He nodded, simply wanting to get out of this awkward situation as soon as possible. He waved good bye to his family before ushering Maggie back to his car. "...That went well."
