Alone

[Firecracker]

Smiling, Fire nodded in agreement, "Yes, let's." She stared up at the star, her eyes focusing on it as she thought long and hard about something to wish for. I just wish to be happy... That's not so greedy, is it?

[Wraith]

"We'll have to remember where it is," Wraith murmured, a very rare playful side coming to the surface, "so we can yell at it if our wishes don't come true."

[Firecracker]

"Sounds like a good idea to me," she agreed, laughing with her. "See how close it is to that building right there?" She lifted her hand up and pointed at the rooftop of a nearby building. "We just need to remember that, I guess."

[Wraith]

Wraith nodded. "We should meet back here in a couple weeks. No wish fulfillment and that star is going down." More of them were coming out now--pinpoints of white fire popping up here and there and glittering through the smog. Wraith gazed straight up--the only safe place to look. If she looked at Fire right now, she didn't know what she might do.

[Firecracker]

Carefully, Fire rolled onto her side to look over at the other girl. She couldn't help but notice the way the night sky lit up her already-bright hair. "Sounds like a good idea to me," she agreed softly. She paused, laughing to herself. "You almost glow in the dark, do you know that?"

[Wraith]

"I didn't," she said with a surprised laugh. "That's not very stealthy of me, is it?" As she spoke, she automatically turned to look at Fire, only to find that their noses were almost touching. She swallowed and sat up quickly. "I, uh...should be heading in. Gotta catch up on my sleep."

[Firecracker]

"Oh, umm, yeah... You're probably right," Fire agreed. Clearing out her throat, she carefully rose to her feet. "This, umm... This was nice. " She paused and quietly ran her hand through her hair. "See you in two weeks?"

[Wraith]

"Well, probably before then..." Wraith pointed out with a nervous smile, rising smoothly to her feet. They'd be sleeping in the same bunkroom and selling the same newspaper, after all. "B-but in two weeks, we've got an official appointment." The return of her stutter brought a blush to her face as she scurried to the ladder, then stopped and looked over her shoulder. "It...it really was nice. Thanks," she practically squeaked, and then pulled her customary vanishing act.

[Firecracker]

"Yeah... you too," Fire said softly, her voice trailing off as she realized that her companion had disappeared as quickly as she had appeared. She linger on the rooftop for a little bit longer before carefully climbing back down the fire escape and into the bunkroom.
