Tara nodded. "Wraith's kind of like that, I guess. She takes a long time to warm up to new people." And her brother, while cheerful and friendly on the surface, would run like hell from almost anyone who tried to get too close. Tara knew how those two came to be the way they were, and she wondered if Fire had a story as well.
"I'm sure you'll make friends at the lodging house, though," she said confidently. "The newsies seem like such a friendly bunch, it's hard to resist them."

"Well, so far I'm doing a pretty good job of resisting them," she joked, her spirits lifting again. She laughed softly as they turned another corner and the lodging house came into view. "Your friend, Wraith, though, she's a sweet girl. Although, I guess if the others are like her, I'm bound to befriend them sooner or later."

"I think they're all pretty different from each other," Tara laughed, thinking of Jack, who she had so much fun with, and Moonshine with his constant flirtation, and the rather mysterious Risk who had helped her find Clara again. "But somehow, they make things work. Kind of like a big, dysfunctional family." She followed Fire up the steps and waited a bit shyly for her to go in first. She'd only been in the lodging house once, and people had obviously found her presence quite strange.

"I haven't met Jack or Risk, but that's what I've heard about Moonshine," Fire replied. She opened the door to the lodging house, motioning for Tara to go inside. "I've also had the chance to taste that bathtub whiskey of his? Ooh, that'll do the trick, let me tell you!"
Still laughing, she followed Tara inside.

"Bathtub whiskey? He's been holding back on me!" Tara exclaimed in mock-indignation, setting the chocolates on the desk. "I doubt I'll see Wraith...you never see her if she doesn't want you to, and she, uh, might not want to see me just now. I'll leave her a note," she announced, scribbling one out on Kloppman's writing pad and setting it on top of the box. "And anyone else who touches these chocolates will answer to me!"

Fire laughed at that, her head shaking in amusement. "I'll see to it that she gets them," she promised. "And that the box will make it to her without being ravaged by anyone else."
She watched the other girl as she casually leaned against the desk. "Are you heading out already?"

Tara shook her head. "Nope! I've got you for company, unless you have somewhere to be--and either way, I figure if we stand here long enough, someone interesting will turn up," she said eagerly.
((We should poke someone else to come join them! ^_^ I'm off to bed soon, though.))

Jack came strolling into the lodging house, yes he was strolling. It had been a pretty good day. He'd sold all of his morning edition papers pretty quickly and found a dime on the street. He paused when he saw the two girls in the lobby.
"hey Tara, who's your friend?" He asked with a smile.

"Jack!" Tara said with a big smile and a slight blush. "This is Firecracker. She's one of yours, apparently." The blush deepened a little. "One of your newsies, I mean."

A huge smile immediately spread across his face when he saw her eyes light up like that, he couldn't help it.
"Oh yeah? Another new one?" He smiled at Fire, "Jack Kelly, nice to meet ya." He held out his hand to her.

"Nice to meet you, too," Fire replied politely as she took his hand and shook it. "I've heard a lot about you..." She paused and laughed a bit. "Well, then again, who hasn't heard a lot about you?"

Jack laughed, "Yeah I guess. I still think it's kind of strange though." He scratched the back of his neck. "Ya know, people knowing you who you've never met?"
