"Yeah, first night in and I'm already in trouble," chuckled Risk nervously. "I-I'm just glad I didn't see her again after that... she ran off after. Nothing huge happened..."

Race shook his head. "It's kinda like you just told me you drunkenly hooked up with my sister. I'd rather not think about it." Though, in fact, the first thought that popped into his head was that Risk might be better for her than Spot was. He actually seemed like a better makeshift father to Macbeth's niece than Spot had ever been to Sean. "Uh...mind getting the door?"

"Oh! Yeah, sorry," he mumbled, opening the door for him and stepping aside. "So, uh, yeah... hence all the awkward glances..."

"Well, at least Spot's outta the picture now," Race pointed out, going in and depositing Wraith on the couch, the designated resting place for passed-out drunks. "So you'll prob'ly get to stick to awkward glances and not, y'know, enraged Brooklyn leaders."

"That's good to know," he chuckled, shaking his head. "Well, Rae has Sean, so she's got a handful already."

"Yeah, she has," Race agreed, smiling wearily. "Sick room's turning into a damn nursery." He covered Wraith with a blanket and automatically headed for the kitchen to pour her the traditional glass of water. He really could do this for a living.

"This house is crazy," he muttered, shaking his head. "That's what it is."

"The house itself? Is it in the walls or the floorboards or something?" Race joked, coming back with the water and setting it beside the couch. He checked Wraith's pulse with two fingers. She squirmed and muttered to herself, so she was probably all right.

"Yeah, it's the house," he muttered, laughing softly. He watched Race with amazement. "Geez. You really are good at this."

"Yeah...I'm good at picking up the pieces," Race said wearily, flopping into a chair to finish the stub of his cigar, because since when had Kloppman been around enough to notice if anyone smoked in the house?

Risk frowned. "I didn't mean that, Race," he muttered, sitting down across from him.

"It's true, though," Race said with a shrug. "'S'all right, I'm good at other things too. Like poker. I should prob'ly warn you about that, if we're gonna play."

"Why, you gonna cheat?" he smirked.

"Only if you do," he said, returning the smirk, "but I usually get accused either way."

"Sounds fair to me," chuckled Risk, quite excited at the thought of it.
