"Of course I do, Skitts. I wouldn't be telling you so if I didn't." She tilted brushed her lips over his.

"You've been through too much in the past few weeks, Script..." he pointed out. She wasn't thinking clearly.

"Which is exactly why I need you, Skitts." She met his eyes, one hand on his cheek as she sat on his lap. "I just want to...feel normal again. The last couple of days have been a hundred times better than the last few weeks, and it's because of you."

"I'm glad I could do that for you, I really am..." He just felt like he needed to get away from her. "I just -- I don't..."

She felt him stiffen and her face fell. She moved off his lap, moving away, turning her back to him so he wouldn't see her eyes well up. He didn't want her. No one would ever want her again.
Her voice was a tight whisper. "Forget it. Just forget I said anything."

"No, Script," he said, standing up and moving to her. "God, I screwed this up," he muttered.

She shook her head, but didn't look at him. "You didn't. You didn't, Skitts. I did. I'm an idiot."

She glanced over at him, biting her lip. Her voice was quiet, "Why are you saying no to me, then, Skitts..?"

He let out a long sigh, wanting to just melt into the floor. "Because I think you would regret it."

She turned to face him, walking over to him slowly. "Why would regret it, Skittery? Why would you think that?"

"I...don't know. But in my mind you'd end up hating me, and I don't know if I could live with that." Geeze, he'd just the girl yesterday, but already he didn't really remember what his life had been like without her...

She touched her hands to his chest gently, looking up at him. "Skittery, I promise I won't hate you. I don't have anything to hate you for." She went up on her toes to kiss him softly, nudging her nose against his. "But I'm not gonna force you. If you won't want to, that's fine. We can just be friends -- just friends -- like before."

Of course he didn't want to be just friends with her, but he was convinced that was what she really needed right now. So he nodded. "Yeah, I would like that."

She couldn't hide the look of hurt and rejection that passed across her face. She lowered her eyes, letting her hands drop away from his chest. "Oh. Okay."
