Tristan stepped into the library and whistled under his breath, hands deep down in his pockets. "Well..this is impressive..."
"Ain't it?" Jack asked him and then sighed as he looked up at all the books. Jack was probably one of the more literate newsies and he actually enjoyed reading the newspaper, his favorite part of the paper were the political cartoons and he'd taken to clipping them out and trying to copy them himself. He found himself wondering whether Tristan could read or not.
If anyone was interested, Tristan could read just enough to get buy, but would never attempt to read an entire book. He'd spent a lifetime worrying about beatings and was lucky he could read a headline.
"So where's your girl?" Tristan asked him.
"Dunno, we gotta find her." Jack said with a shrug.

Tara was in the adventure aisle, reading about pirates. She loved pirates. When she and Clara were children, Clara had wanted to be a knight, and Tara wanted to be a pirate.
When she heard a familiar voice, however, she grinned, tucked the book under her arm, and bounded out into the open. "Jack!" she said happily, hugging him, and then noticed Tristan and bowed solemnly. "Tara Fields, pleased to meet you." She was dying to know whether he'd really done what Jack asked him to do, but she figured it wasn't good manners to just blurt it out.

Tristan stared at her for a second and then shook her hand, "This is your girl?" He asked Jack, thinking how in a million years did Jack Kelly get a girl like this.
"Yeah what of it?"
"Nothing," Tristan smirked. "Nice to meet ya," The group moved into a cozy little alcove and Tristan took a seat making himself comfortable.

Tara sat down, straightened her skirt, cleared her throat, and glanced at Tristan, trying to act like she attended clandestine meetings like this all the time. "So, did you...did you really....?"

"He definitely won't bother you no more. I'm surprised there ain't news of your broken engagement actually. Scared the living shit out of him. I think he pissed himself. Turns out he owed my father quite a bit of money," Tristan smirked to himself.

Tara's face broke into an enormous smile. She looked almost psychotically happy. "Thank God! I wish I could throw the ring across the room right now, but I never wore the damn thing anyway." She jumped up and threw her arms around Tristan. "Thank you so much!"
((Bahahaha! ;D))

Tristan blinked for a second and then patted her back awkwardly, "Uh...you're welcome?" He shrugged and then held Tara out at arms length. "I don't usually hug people."
Jack bit his lip and tried hard not to laugh, God he loved when Tristan was uncomfortable.

"Sorry," she said solemnly, stepping back, though she really just wanted to laugh at his expression. "I just can't believe it's finally over...I've had to deal with the prospect of marrying that bastard since I was twelve." She beamed at Tristan, then Jack, then both of them at once. "We should celebrate!"

"Now celebrating I do, what did you have in mind?" Tristan said with a smirk.
"You know, our celebrations tend to get a little out of hand..." Jack said, "I don't think it's library appropriate."

Tara snickered at that. "Well, we could go out drinking and carousing for now," she suggested cheerfully. "But also..."
There was an evil gleam in her eye, and it was suddenly very clear who had helped Goblin with all his crazy schemes when they were kids. "My father's giving a cotillion ball on Saturday. I wondered if the two of you might want to come...and your wife, of course," she added politely to Tristan. "It's, uh...technically my debutante ball. What better time to announce my broken engagement, right? And I could really use some moral support," she said with an innocent expression.
Her entire family would absolutely explode.
((Could. Not. Resist.))

The two newsboys stood there just staring at her until Jack cleared his throat and then Tristan smirked. "Why the hell not?"
"Sure...I got one question though Tara...do you want this to be a total disaster? Cause we could really make your entire family lose their minds. You know...we do know quite a few newsies."
"Yeah...I'm sure the girls would love it..." Tristan said with a grin. Jack and Tristan bother were grinning conspiratorially.

((PROBOARDS IS WORKING AT HOME RIGHT NOW. Knock on wood...))
Tara gave them a gleeful look and spontaneously leaned over and kissed Jack. "I would be honored to welcome any of your friends to my cotillion," she said, smirking broadly.

She kissed him back, her lips lingering on his just long enough to realize that Tristan might be getting a little uncomfortable. After which she was kind enough to stop. "I know!" she said happily. "Just give me a list sometime this week so I can get everything ready. Wouldn't want to be short on refreshments or anything." The images dancing through her head right now made her want to laugh hysterically. "But for now...drinks?"
((I KNOW. ;D When we do the ball, we should split it into multiple threads, like we did with the big poker game way back when.))

"I'm always in for drinks," Tristan said with a grin.
"Sounds good to me," Jack said and wrapped an arm around her waist.
((Did you get my message about the Rae/Spot drama? This can be where they start to make up!?))
