He groaned. "What? No." He didn't want to have to send her away. He wanted to stay just like this. Preferably forever.
He kissed the spot where her neck and shoulder met. "Let's get outta here and go to the LH. I'll leave a note."

((time for bed! last post for the night))
"Sounds like a plan," Zippy agreed, unhappily untangling herself from him as she moved to sit up. "It's a good thing I woke up before your-" But before she was done with the sentence, the Jacobs' front door opened, and there was an echo of female chatter.
"....mom and sister got home." She finished, looking at David in horror. Oh no. She had to get out of there-- NOW.

((Night!))
He kissed her quick. "Go out the window, wait for me at the bottom of the fire escape." He kissed her again, then slipped out of the room, closing the door behind him. He greeted his mom, making small talk to give Zippy time to make it down, then told his mom he was spending the night at the LH.

Zippy couldn't help it- she kind of felt like a fool sneaking around like this, crawling out of windows and down fire escapes. Although it was definitely too soon to meet David's parents, it still felt awfully wrong.
By the time David met her at the bottom of the fire escape, zippy had lit a cigarette and was watching a couple of kids play stickball.

"Hey, I'm so sorry, Zip!" He shifted on his feet awkwardly. "That--you shouldn't have had to do that." It made it seem like he thought there was something wrong with their relationship, something they needed to hide, and that definitely wasn't the case.

"It's fine, Dave," Zippy replied, smiling a little at him and taking a drag of her cigarette. "The last thing I'd want is for your mother to meet me in a situation like that. You should tell her about me first." Although the thought of that made Zippy a bit uncomfortable, too. What would she say to the woman? It was an awful lot of pressure and Zippy was worrying about it already.

He nodded, taking hold of her hand. "I, uh...I told her I wasn't gonna come home tonight. That I'm staying at the House..." He bit the inside of his lip, looking at her.

"Great! Want to get dinner? There's this one Italian place that gives newsies a break," Zippy suggested, tossing the butt of her finished cigarette onto the street.

He nodded, linking his fingers with hers. "You mean Mama's? I've been there a couple times, it's good." He smiled at her.

"Yep. We should go, like you know, for our third date," Zippy added, smiling at him.

He grinned, then blushed a little. "Yeah, and, you know...our first date as an official couple, and all..."

"Does that mean you're paying?" Zippy joked, linking her arm through his.

He leaned over to kiss her temple. "If you want me to, I will. Whatever you want."

Zippy laughed, shaking her head. "So what did you do before you became a newsie?" She asked him as they made their way to the restaurant. Walking everywhere took a while.

"Nothing really. Just went to school. Dad's working again, and between him and Mom and Sarah, we're doing okay. I don't need to sell anymore, but I like it. I like being out, instead of trapped behind a desk all day." He squeezed her hand, brushing his thumb across her knuckles lazily.
