"Aye, Tornado, corro! run!" Leo shouted, urging his black horse, Tornado, to run faster down dusty path. Tornado sped down the dirt path, gaining up on the white horse they were chasing after.
Tornado was the quickest and fastest horse in all of southern California, allowing Leo to easily catch up to the middle-aged man with a stolen bag with $100,000 on his back.
"Pull over muchacho!" Leo ordered, pulling out his sword and waving it at him, "Or I'll make you."
The bank robber spit at him. "Catch me now, Zorro!"
Leo laughed at him, took his sword, and with amazing expertise, carved a "Z" into the man's arm. The robber squealed in pain, let go of his reins, and flew off his horse. Tornado immediately halted and Leo leapt off him, grabbing the man. He tied his rope around the man and safely recovered the stolen money.
An hour later, with Tornado back in his stable and the robber with the sheriff, Leo attempted to sneak back into class at the local university. While being Zorro had its duties, it didn't put food on the table, and Leo was studying business. He figured that he could eventually open up his own store and be his own boss- that way he could leave at a moments notice without hesitation.

Kathryn shot him a look when he took his seat next to her. "Late again," she murmured, only taking her eyes off her notes for a second to glance over at him. "I'm serious, Leo, I'm not going to let you copy my notes next time."

Leo grinned at her. "Ah, you say that now querida, but you've never been able to resist my charms before." The teacher shot Leo a look- the man hated Leo because he was a racist Confederate- but that didn't stop Leo from talking to Kathryn. It never stopped him.

"What's your excuse this time?" she whispered, hoping not to catch the teacher's attention herself. Not only did he hate Leo for his race, he hated Kathryn for her gender. Girls were NOT supposed to go to school. But Kathryn was too ambitious (and rich) for her own good.

"I lost my wallet," Leo told her smoothly, having already thought of an excuse on the way in. She never did believe him, but he could put some effort into it. "Don't worry though, I found it." He grinned, taking out a pencil and paper. Leo didn't really need to know anything about business- most of it was just common sense- he just wanted the degree.

Kathryn just hummed disapprovingly. "Didn't you lose your wallet a couple weeks ago?" The man sitting next to her shushed her, and she shot him an annoyed look.

Leo nodded, smiling. "I have awful luck, don't I?"

"It would seem so," she replied, raising an eyebrow at him. The rest of the class passed quickly, as both Leo and Kathryn jotted their notes down as quickly as the words came out of the teacher's mouth. By the time class was dismissed, Kathryn's hand was aching. "Why does he have to talk so quickly?"

Leo shrugged. "At least English isn't your second language," he joked, although he followed the teacher perfectly fine.

Kathryn just rolled her eyes, smirking as she gathered up her books and headed out of the classroom. "Any plans for the evening? You're not going to lose your wallet again, are you?"

Leo chuckled, following her out. "You're quite amusing, Kathryn. But no, I do not have any plans tonight." As they walked out of the building, a young newsboy was shouting the hot off the press headline.
"ZORRO DOES IT AGAIN! $100,000 RETURNED TO THE BANK!"

Kathryn hurriedly fished a coin out of her handbag and handed it to the boy, receiving the paper on return. "Can you believe this?" she asked Leo as she studied the headline. "How does no one know who he is?!"

Leo shrugged, glancing over her shoulder at the newspaper. "Identities are a strange thing, I guess. If I was a bad guy and knew who he was, I'd probably kill him, eh?" he smiled at her. "Look here." He pointed to a statistic in the article. "With the emergence of Zorro," He read, "nearly 9 in 10 criminals has been brought to the sheriff's department within the last year."

"If there weren't so many pictures of him in the paper, I would hardly believe he's even real... Who has time for that?" She shook her head slowly as she skimmed through the rest of the article.

Leo smiled. True, he barely has time for it. Everytime the sherriff's department rang the community bell he sprinted off to help, dropping anything and, as he grungingly reminded himself, anyone. Which was exactly why he could never ask out Kathryn, although he was pretty sure he was completely in love with her.
"evidently, Zorro does." Leo was still looking over her shoulder as she flipped through hr paper. "hey, what's this article about your dad?"
