He felt guilty for every one of the five or six seconds that he let her hold his hand before pulling it away. And even guiltier for the fact that he wanted nothing more than to pull her closer instead. "Maggie, you shouldn't be worried about anything but getting through this and moving on. I'm fine." That might be the first time he'd outright lied to her.

And she knew it was a lie the second he said it to her. "You're not fine, Sebastian. You're--this is all my fault." She bit her lip, looking at her lap. "I shouldn't have--I should have been stronger, better...for you."

[Goblin]

There was probably nothing else she could have said that would have left him more horrified than that. He suddenly had to resist the urge to grab her and shake her.

"Mag," he said as calmly as he possibly could, "I seriously hope you don't really believe that. But if you do, you need to talk to your boyfriend about it. 'Cause I guarantee he's got a much clearer idea of what I'm worth." And then he couldn't even look at her anymore, so he turned and walked out of the kitchen, praying she wouldn't follow.

She didn't follow him, just burst into tears, sitting at the kitchen table and sobbing. She was overwhelmed with the fear that it was never going to be normal again, not for them.
