Risk looked at her in surprise. "What? Why? You don't want me to be all comforting?"

"No!" she said as if it should be obvious. "'Cause I'll just snap at you, and you don't deserve that, so it's better if you leave me alone. 'Cept..." Except there was obviously some reason she'd invited him to the park and pointed out their lack of communication. She sighed. "I got to thinking maybe you wanted to. Talk, I mean." She looked at him and then back down at Jo. "So if, y'know, you do...go ahead."

((They're so awkward, I love it.))
"Well, I'll only talk if you want to talk," said Risk, sounding much like a five year old. He wasn't about to display all his feelings when all she was going to do was listen. Although, that didn't sound too bad either.

((I know, me too! ;D Also, last post tonight! G'night! <3))
"Oh, for God's sake, just talk to me already!" Macbeth snapped, true to her prediction seconds earlier. She fixed him with the kind of glare that usually made people either do what she said or punch her in the face. Jo started awake and whimpered, and Macbeth gritted her teeth and rubbed her back till her eyes closed again. "Say something," she muttered. "I'll spill if you do."

"What happened in that alley? Is the guy dead?" asked Risk almost immediately. He looked at her with concern, his emotions now clearly shown on his face.

"You and that alley," she said, rolling her eyes to disguise her own feelings on the matter. She remembered how he'd practically had a breakdown when she got home that night. "I let him take me out there once I had enough information. He went to kiss me and I punched him in the stomach." She'd been saving that kiss for sixteen years, damn it. "So he grabbed at my dress, there was some hitting on both sides, and I finally got my hand on a lead pipe and hit him over the head." She shrugged. "He was out cold, but as far as I know, he ain't dead."

"But how are you?" asked Risk gently. Things happened so fast that night that he never got to ask her that question.

She gave him a measuring look. "I dunno. When I think about it, I kinda want to kill everyone. Y'know, more than usual." She turned a corner and was grateful to see the park coming up on their right. Anyway, it was her turn to ask questions. "When they had us...questioning those kids...you ever done that before?"

"Only a couple times," he answered, sighing. "It was around the time when I wanted to get out of the gang... I'm just glad they caved in fast enough."

"Could've been worse," she agreed. "Thought I was gonna have to break some fingers." She turned onto a path through the fading grass and trees of Central Park. Most of the leaves had fallen, and a sharp gust of wind made her shiver. A walk through the park on a December night did seem like a strange idea, but she felt like the cold was clearing her head a little. Jo woke with a squeal of delight, wriggling in Beth's arms, so Beth put her down to run around in the grass. With a sigh, she settled onto a bench to watch her.

Risk sat down next to Beth, tempted to put his arm around her shoulder or hold her hand or something. "Y'know, Beth, if anything happened to you..." he started, finally looking at her.

She felt an odd stirring in her chest, halfway between panic and...something else, but she did her best to push it down as she looked back at him. "Yeah?"

"I wouldn't be able to forgive myself," he said after a couple of moments, staring down at his feet. "Then I would've looked for the bastard or whoever it is and smash their face into pieces." He hoped Beth wasn't looking for something romantic for him to say. He was never really good at those types of things.

Macbeth, who had never had a romantic thought in her life, or at least not one she'd admitted to, smiled slightly. "Yeah, well...I'd do the same for you." And then the night was quiet. Central Park, which was usually rather shady at night, was utterly quiet. Even Jo was quiet, searching the grass for beetles a few feet away. Beth felt like she was teetering on the edge of disaster.
She leaned toward Risk, tilted his chin up, and kissed him softly, plunging right over the edge because there wasn't a single cell in her body that gave her any choice.

((I LITERALLY SCREAMED IN MY LIVING ROOM. LOL.))
Risk didn't have any time to react. Before he knew it, Macbeth was kissing him. Macbeth was fucking kissing him and he didn't know whether to grab her by the shoulders or jump for joy. Instead, he gently kissed her back, his lips gently grazing hers.
