"Who doesn't know?" Leo chimed in, concerned. He began to wipe down the bar counter, and gave Macbeth a confused look.

"Her brother don't know she's here," Macbeth explained, draining the last of her gin. "Miss Svetlana's being all sneaky and wicked. I couldn't be prouder."

"You will not tell him, will you?" Svetlana asked Leo with a small laugh -- as if he knew her brother from anybody else in the room, anyway. She slowly took another sip of her vodka, laughing again. "This vodka, it is good!"

Leo shook his head, promising to not tell her brother, whoever the guy was. "You seem too young to enjoy a good glass of vodka."

Beth snorted. "No one's too young for that." Seeing that Svetlana was now in better company, she grabbed a napkin, pulled out a pen, and jotted down her and Risk's address. "Seriously, drop by sometime," she said, winking evilly at the girl. "Oh, and I'll be nearby, so gimme a yell if this guy tries anything." With that, she grabbed her drink and wandered off to lurk in the shadows and watch the crowd. Alone was always better anyway.

"I will, thank you," Svetlana said with a smile. She took the piece of paper and slipped it into her pocket. She would have to see that girl again soon -- she seemed nice. Well, to her anyway.
"I am 15," she finally said to Leo, her eyebrows arching playfully. "In Moscow, I would be married by now." Well, at least that's what she thought. Back home, it seemed like almost every other girl was married by that time.

Leo chuckled, and leaned forward. "that doesn't sound very appealing. did you just arrive in New York?"

"We came six months ago," Svetlana explained casually, her smile growing as she continued to talk to him. "My brother continues to work while I continue to wait."
She laughed at herself, her head shaking. "I do not know what I am waiting for anymore." She glanced up at him, her head tilting slightly to the side. "I am sorry, but I don't think I remember your name..."

Leo smiled at her, offering her his hand. "I'm Leo. I live in the Duane St lodging house as well. Why don't you come join me tomorrow? I work at a veterinarian's office."

"Do you?" she asked, blushing a bit ass she took his hand. "I... I would like that very much, yes!"
Could this be real? Was she actually talking to a male that lived in the same building she did that wasn't her brother? Of course, this meant that it was only a matter of time before her brother found out about all of this. "What time is good?" she asked, trying her hardest to push back her worries about her brother finding out.

"I leave at 7 am, he usually feeds me breakfast and lunch since he doesn't pay me anything else...I hope you like animals," he smiled at her, realizing he had forgotten to ask her name. "And what is your name?" He blushed, worried that he had been rude.

"I do like animals, yes," Svetlana replied with a smile. "When I was a young girl, we had a cat." She paused and switched the hand that she was holding her glass with, extending her newly-free hand to him. "My name is Svetlana. What is yours?"

"Leo," he replied, smiling at her. "we have a lot of cats at the office."

"You do," Svetlana asked, her eyes wide. Truth be told, she was a lover of animals in general, but cats were her favorite. She smiled across the bar at him, lightly twisting a small section of hair around her index finger. "It is nice to meet you, Leo."
She finished the last of her drink and set the empty glass down on the bar. "So... you work here and at an office? When do you have time to sleep? Your girlfriend, she must miss you a lot." Assuming he had a girlfriend, that is.

Leo blushed, shaking his head. "I don't have a girlfriend. I don't have anybody."
