He laughed, kissing her temple as they walked. "You'll find out soon enough," he assured her.

She smiled, feeling better now than she had in weeks. "You don't have to."

He rolled his eyes, smiling still as the restaurant came into view. "Oh, please. Don't give me that. I can give you that because I'm grumpy and kind of a scrooge. But you can't give me that, missy."

She laughed. "You're no scrooge, baby." She stopped him before they went inside. "You're the best thing that ever happened to me."

He looked down at her, shaking his head a bit in disbelief. Then he sighed. "I don't understand it. I'll take it, because I don't want to lose you... But I just don't understand it." How he could be the best thing that happened to her, he had no idea why or how or what or anything... But he was certainly glad she felt that way.

She smiled, touching his cheek. "You're not gonna lose me, Mike. I love you."

He smiled right back, one of the only genuine smiles that had graced his lips in the last few weeks. Then he bent his head and kissed her softly, chastely seeing as they were in public and all. "I love you, too," he whispered against her lips. "Very, very much."

Her heart melted and she squeezed his hand. "Come on. Let's eat."

He sent her a sly wink before opening the door, ushering her inside. They were seated in a cozy booth, a couple candles sitting atop the table. "You get whatever you want, okay, Mags?" he looked across the table at her from over his menu, eyebrows raised.

She smiled at him, nodding, but she already knew she was ging to get the cheapest thing on the menu.

After perusing the menu for a minute or two, he put it down so he could look at her again. "Maybe you should get the ravioli with spinach and mushrooms in it. You really need to eat a lot of nutritious things," he informed her matter of factly, nodding slowly.

She arched her brow at him, smirking. "Uh, okay..." she giggled, amused that he was suddenly concerned about her diet.

He blushed a little, slumping down in his seat. "I read it in a book..." he mumbled, eyes fixed on his menu.

That made her brows shoot up to her hairline. "You--you read a book about having a baby...?" She said it softly, surprised. And incredibly touched.

He shrugged, trying to be casual. "I was at the library, saw it there, thought maybe I'd skim through it or whatever..." He had gone to look at a particular art book, but had ended up spending most of his time holed up reading that pregnancy book. It was horribly embarrassing now that he thought about it, but at the time he had been kinda fascinated and intrigued.
