Considering his only daughter was refusing to speak to him, David wasn't really in the mood to go out to dinner. But Erin had insisted. "Can't we just pick something up and go home? I'd rather be in my pajamas right about now." He sighed as they approached the host. "Reservations for Jacobs."

Erin wasn't in the greatest mood either, but they had made plans with their friends long ago, and she didn't want to cancel. She took David's hand as they were led to their table. No one else was there yet. "Dave, maybe we can set Melody up with my boss's son at the art gallery. He is very handsome, Jewish, and at law school at NYU."

He nodded, but sighed. "Go ahead and try. But she won't listen. Her head's too full of that damn Shamien kid. And he's not even a kid! He's nearly seven years older than she is! Seven!"

Erin sighed, looking helpless. "It's a phase, David. She knows she can't marry him. I don't think she's even seen him since that night."

David grumbled something, then glanced up from his menu. He was about to speak when a waiter across the way moved...and David got a perfect view of Melody and Mikey. His eyes darkened and his clenched his jaw. "You sure about that, Erin?"

"What's wrong with Brooklyn?" Mikey asked her. He'd never thought about living anywhere else before and liked Brooklyn. It was quieter and if you wanted to work hard to make a nice home you could.

Erin, confused, followed the direction of David's eyes and gasped, grabbing his arm. "Please David, don't do anything rash! We are in public...and our friends could arrive at any minute!"
Melody shrugged. "nothing, just that...manhattan has everything! Shopping, restaurants, and all my friends are here. They are beginning to build a bunch of skyscrapers too!"

David glowered angrily. "She had explicit orders not to see him again! What is she thinking?!"

Erin shook her head, holding onto him. "What can we do? Take away her allowance? Throw her out of the house?" While she was exaggerating, those consequences suddenly didn't seem that ridiculous. "But she'd still see him."

"Brooklyn's got it all too ya know? It's just quieter. Besides I don't think your friends would really appreciate someone like me anyways." he said.

David frowned darkly. "Why can't we do those things? If we threatened to cut her off, surely she wouldn't pick him over her family."
Somewhere in the back of his mind, he was reminded of his own parents, but she shoved that thought away, too focused on feeling betrayed by his daughter.

Erin frowned. "Maybe not. I don't want her to resent us! Your parents didn't like me until you got into Columbia," she pointed out. "And its not like you stopped seeing me."
-- Melody shook her head. "The ones that already met you like you." But that was only her two closest girlfriends, and they probably think Mikey was just a phase...

David frowned. "That was different. You weren't some angry kid from Brooklyn whose father was a goddamn murderer and gang member. He'll put her in danger, Erin. That kid's got to have enemies. What if she gets caught in the middle of it?"

((haha omg i love david SO MUCH.))
That did it. Erin crossed her arms, giving off a cold look. She didn't want anything to happen to her baby. "Cut her off, David. Take away her money." She ordered a martini then. Just to take off the edge. What had they done wrong? Melody was the perfect daughter until this. She should have known better...

((ME TOO!))
David nodded, frowning. He felt a pang of guilt deep in his gut, but desperate times called for desperate measures. "Should we confront her now, or wait until she comes home? See if she lies to us about where she was tonight?"
