Melody walked inside, feeling awful that her parents had practically thrown Mikey on the curb and Mike's dad was welcoming her into his home. Or maybe he just was because he actually loved his son, while her parents seemed to hate her.
She cleared her throat while waiting for Mike to come and glanced at Tristan. She didn't want to be rude and he was making her nervous. "You have a lovely home, Mikey told me you built a lot of it yourself..."

Tristan smirked at her, "Yeah well...the place was falling apart when I bought it so," He shrugged. "There was no one else to do and my family couldn't live somewhere that was falling down around them." He explained. Tristan leaned over the bannister and called upstairs. "Mikey! Your girl's down here!"
"WHAT!?" Mikey yelled back.
"COME DOWNSTAIRS!" Tristan yelled back in a tone that was not to be argued with and rolled his eyes.
In less than a minute Mikey came running down the stairs, but stopped short when he saw Melody standing there. "Mel..."

"I know you told me never to come to Brooklyn without you but I hadn't heard from you and I just felt awful and missed you," She spat out, rather quickly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

Mikey glanced at his father and then back at Melody, "I ain't saying nothin." Tristan said and left the hall, walking into the family room.
"Mel..." Mikey sighed, he didn't know how to explain anything. "Our parents hate each other. We couldn't just...be together and be happy ever."

Melody let out a small gasp, his words hitting her harder than they should have. She had expected that from her parents, and maybe even Mikey's, but Michael himself?
So that's how it was gonna be. One conversation with his parents and he was good to go, while Melody made a fool out of herself, fighting with her parents and schleping all the way out here to try to make them work?
Mel shook her head, both angry and miserable at the same time. "I shouldn't have come out here," she managed, turning away from him, feeling worse than ever before.

"Mel please," He sighed heavily and rested his hands on her shoulders. "Your mom and my dad...they were together and I," he swallowed hard. "then I was born. My father had this fling with somebody before your mom, then they was together and then he found out about me. That's why they broke up. Mel, they loved each other and I ruined it." He said softly. He didn't want his father to hear, but he knew it was the truth. Tristan had never once said he'd loved Zippy, but from the way his father explained it he knew that he had.

"That was 25 years ago!" Mel hissed at him, shrugging him way from her. "My mom loves my dad, it doesn't matter now! I can't believe all this. I can't believe you...are agreeing to it!" she never thought she'd be the rebel in this relationship, the one breaking the rules.

"I'm not agreeing to it but I can understand why our parents will hate each other no matter what we do!" He yelled back at her. "My father gave up everything for me, don't you see that! He gave up the girl he loved so he could be around me." Mikey explained.
Somewhere deep down in him, he felt guilty about that. If Tristan had felt even a fraction of what he felt for Melody then he knew how hard that must have been. "And I ain't the guy you really want. I can't ever get you a nice house like the one you got now, or even the pretty dresses you're always wearing. Mel, you'll start to hate me cause I can't provide for you the things you're used to having..." Mikey sighed heavily.

Mel frowned, wondering how hard it must have been for her mother. But it didn't matter, because her parents met and were happy. And from what she knew about Mike's parents, they were happy too. She didn't get what everyone was making such a big deal about.
"So what do I do? Find some guy that can buy me nice things and settle for him? FUCK THAT. I want you!" Melody cursed at him, something she rarely did and glared at him. "I can make my own decisions. You, my mom and my dad can call go to hell for all I care! Treating me like some sort of a kid, like I don't know any better!"

"Sometimes you don't know any better!" Mikey yelled at her. He actually didn't know what else to say.
Tristan had heard enough and appeared a moment later. "HEY!" He bellowed and glared at them both. "Do you love this girl?" He demanded of his son, pointing at Zippy, using his left hand.
Mikey just stared at him, he blinked and swallowed hard.
"You better fucking answer me, boy. Do you love her?" He asked his son again, his voice nearly a growl.
Mikey swallowed again and then looked at Melody and then back at his father, then back to Melody. "Yeah...I love her, dad."
"Then stop being an asshole and do something about it." His father ordered.

Melody was terrified when Mikey was yelling at her and even more so when Tristan was yelling at him. She could sort of see what her mother saw in him, but found it crazy hard to even imagine them together.
"Forget it," Melody managed, although she was scared they were all gonna yell at her again. They didn't yell much at home, and she sort of had a feeling they did it a lot more here. "I don't want to fight for us myself. You are making me feel foolish." She backed away, hitting the front door.

"No, don't go." Mikey went over to her and cupped her face in his hands. "I love you. Please don't go. I'm sorry," he said softly and closed his eyes. "I just...I don't want you to regret us...regret picking me."

"If I regret it, that's my problem," She scolded him, "I wouldn't blame you." Mike was a good guy, one of the best ones she had ever met.
But....She knew she could never fully commit to him if her parents didn't accept them. She was too close ot her family to disappoint them like this. "Let's just keep trying with my family. Maybe they'll come around."

"When Jesus takes a seat at the sabbath table," Tristan muttered.
Mikey glared at his father and then turned back to her. "We'll figure it out..."

((hahaha i <3 Tristan ))
Melody gave Mikey a nervous look. "What can we do?" She looked at Tristan then. "What...can we do?" She figured if he wasn't yelling at her to leave his home, he didn't really give a shit his son was seeing her.
