Her lip trembled and she stood up. "Well, I know I'm not as smart as you Eli, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid." She wiped at her eyes angrily. "I should never have come here. None a' this woulda' happened if I hadn't wanted to see you. You coulda' brought those girls home and had your fun, and I wouldn't be hurtin' so damn much."
She let out a sob, grabbing her bloody dress to put it back on.

Eli groaned. "you are not understanding! It's not that I don't value your input, but...I already said I'm going to work and you are fighting with me for no reason! My head really hurts Trix!"

"Exactly!" she snapped. "Your head hurts, Eli, 'cause ya fell down a goddamn flight a' stairs and landed on it! And you wanna go to work?!" She scoffed, shaking her head. "Do what ya want. You're right, I can't tell ya what to do." She met his eyes, her lip trembling. "It's not like I'm your girlfriend." She turned away from him to finish zipping her dress.

"Even if you were my wife you wouldn't have the right to tell me if I should or shouldn't stay home from work!" Eli protested at her. "you don't understand what it's like down there, unless my legs stop working, I'm dragging my ass to work."

Trixie wiped her eyes, shaking her head, crying. "He won't listen to me and he basically called me stupid. I told him, Erin. I told him I loved him and it didn't matter. So let him go to work and get hurt or worse, but I ain't gonna let myself get treated mean."

She shook her head. "I walked out. I don't know what we are. We were never anything, really." That set her off again, and she started to cry.

That's when Eli came stumbling out of the bedroom, not really wanting ot hear any more of this. He actually couldn't bear to hear her cry. "Please...just come lie with me Trixie." he begged, holding onto the door frame for support.
"ELI!" Zippy shrieked, going to him. "Get back in bed."

Trixie hurried to him, helping Zippy get back Eli back in bed. "Eli, are ya outta your mind!" She tucked him back in, fluffing his pillow up behind him. "You're supposed to stay in bed!"

"Just...lie with me will you?" He asked Trixie tiredly, his eyes closing and his hand grabbing her wrist. Zippy shook her head at the drama and walked out of the room and pulled david with her into her bedroom.
