He nodded. "Plus, there's always AcaDeca." He glanced at her. "You don't mind that I don't play sports, do you?"

"What do I care?" Erin replied with a shrug. "As long as you're doing something." She was so busy, she didnt' want him to be doing nothing when she was trying to run dance team, finish her art work, and also keep up with schoolwork.
But it was kind of...different...to be with someone who was in a different friend group than her. It wasn't like David would be invited to any football player's parties when he was practicing with the Mathletes. Even Erin would admit that. It was fine, she could take him. It would be fun.

He watched her a minute, not sure if he really believed her. She was popular and pretty...she should be dating a football star or something, not him.
He reached a hand up to touch her hair. "Can I take you out tonight?"

"Umm...where were you thinking? Dinner or something?" Usually her parents didnt let her go out on school nights. Mostly because she'd never get her work done if she didnt.

He nodded. "Nothing fancy. Just pizza or something. I can help you on your math homework." He gave her a smile, brushing his thumb down her cheek.

Well that was hard to say no to. "Alright. I like the sound of that. I'll pick you up at 6? Or do you have a car you can use?"

He shook his head. "Not yet. Dad said maybe next semester. You don't mind picking me up?"

"No, not at all." The bell rang, and Erin gathered her things. She kissed him goodbye and headed to her next class.

He waved her off, then sighed. She was holding back, even thought she was trying not to. He could tell. He went to class, sulking.

Erin was already exhausted by the end of the day as she waited for David by her car. People really were rude the stuff they were saying to her. And Justin wasn't helping- he had been waiting for her by her locker, demanding to know why she was dating some lame new kid when she could be back with him.
She sighed, turning on the radio.

He met up with her, kissing her lightly. "You okay? You look upset."

This was why she loved David. He understood, and paid attention. And really actually cared.
"Things were so much simpler this summer. I don't know why things are suddenly complicated, but they are." She turned on her ignition and began to pull out of school, driving to her own house. She figured they would just hang out there until they left to get pizza.

He looked over at her, frowning a little. People had been saying things to him, too, muttering at him and smirking as he walked by. "What's complicated?"

"I'm just so busy, and math is so hard, and...welll once my friends get to know you, they'll love you as much as I do," Erin said ot him, giving him a sad look. "I don't know why anyone gives a shit about us but for some reason they do."

He sighed. "Because I'm out of your league, Erin, that's why."
