Jack sighed and then followed after her, "why did they target you?" he asked.

Birdie glanced over her shoulder, then slowed to match his pace. "My father owed Priest money. He died, and the sale of the house didn't cover the loan." She furrowed her brow. "I don't think he expected to get any money out me -- the only thing I own is this," she lifted the case, "and about fifty cents."

"he will think he owns you until the debt is paid." he sighed and shoved his hands into his pockets. "I need to talk to Spot about all this and see if he even knows what's going on...hopefully him and Tristan already have a plan."

Birdie blinked at him, having no idea who Spot or Tristan were. "Priest told Hoffman that he was sending some of his boys to Brooklyn -- I know he said Monday would be there to help him." She furrowed her brow, hoping the very few details she had were at least somewhat helpful.

"do you know when?" Jack asked her. Whoever these guys were they we're moving fast and he didn't like it one bit.

"A couple of days," she told Jack. "Monday is probably already in Brooklyn by now."

"Shit," Jack said. "Come on, we're going for a visit." He grabbed her hand, turned on his heel and headed toward the Brooklyn Bridge.
