After nodding slightly, she slipped under the covers, snuggling into Tyler's side and resting a hand on his chest. "Sorry," she said quietly. "I wish you didn't have to see me like this." She hated it.

Rose was about to reply with some sarcastic quip when she heard footsteps on the stairs. Then a knock on her door.
"Rose?" her grandmother called, knocking again. "Just wondering what you two are up to..."
Rose bit her lip. "We're, uh, playing Go Fish! But Tyler doesn't have any fives, so guess Rosie's going fishing!"

"Yeah, after I beat his ass in this game!" Rose added, smiling widely.
Vera choked, though Rose couldn't tell if she was shocked at Rose's language or because she was trying not to laugh. "Just make sure you come down to eat something before you leave," she said before slowly making her way back downstairs.

She shook her head. "I think I would die if I stayed here for the rest of my life," she admitted, not caring that she was being a bit dramatic. But that didn't mean she wanted to leave soon, either.
