"Oh." He knew what she was thinking of, and wasn't sure "daring" was the word he'd use for it, but it certainly wasn't a discussion for a Sapphy and Racetrack Adventures day. "Question two, then?"

Sapphy pursed her lips and rolled her eyes up to the sky so she could think.
"What are you most scared of?"

Not an easy one. He lit a cigar while they walked to help him ponder. "'Member when Brooklyn almost went to war, and Manhattan was getting involved too?" He took a delicious drag of smoke. "That. Not the fighting part, but that something big and bad'll happen, and everyone I care about will just be...gone." Yeah, definitely some childhood issues surfacing today.

"It didn't happen, though," Sapphy reminded him kindly, taking his free hand. She inhaled the cigar smoke happily.
"I'm scared of the dark."

"Really?" He squeezed her hand. "Plenty of extra candles in our bunkroom, if you ever need one."
((And now I have "RENT" stuck in my head.))

"Not like that," she said softly. "The shadows in the dark. Sometimes I think the same ones are following me, watching me. They want to drag me away..." She smiled at Race brightly.

"Don't let 'em," Race advised lightly, though he was actually rather concerned. "I'd miss you."

Sapphy pushed her shoulders back, feeling a bit humbled and demure. She couldn't help but kiss Race again for that.
I'd miss you too.

He kissed her back, wondered how long it would take for him to be entirely certain this was real, and said, "One more question! And then it's my turn, though we might have to take a rollercoaster break." He could hear faint carnival music in the distance.

Sapphy bit down on her lower lip thoughtfully, looking up at Race.
"If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?"

((She asks such good questions! )) "I guess it'd be a cop-out to say I'd make myself taller," he smirked. Then searched his mind for a serious answer. "I have this thing for risks," he said at last. "You ain't really seen that side of me, but some of the guys have, and they could tell you it gets outta hand when my life's not going so well. So I'd get rid of that, and just replace it with an urge to sulk and drink whiskey." ((And the ideas for an angsty Race plotline begin to form...))

"You're taller than me," Sapphy added helpfully, standing on her toes to be more eye-to-eye with Race. "And if life gets you down, just come to me. I'm an expert. I'll fix you," she whispered. "Like..." She kissed him again.

He closed his eyes and leaned in to deepen the kiss, and he was smiling when he pulled away, his hand resting on the back of her neck. "Gotta admit, that'll prob'ly do the trick."

"Can probably think of a few other tricks you can do to me," she grinned playfully. She grabbed Racetrack's hand and pulled him towards the park.

He was still grinning at that when they made their way onto the grass in the midst of whirling rides, flashing lights, and noisy games of chance. The smells of popcorn, hot dogs, and cotton candy filled the air. Clutching Sapphy's hand, Race looked around with the wonder of a little kid. "It's so...wow. Was it always this big?"
