She nodded warily. "Here and there...wherever I can." She wasn't about to let him find out where she lived. Maybe she could go inside some boardinghouse or apartment building that they passed along the way, and pretend it was her current home.
She walked along briskly beside him, eager to put the opium den behind her. Last time she would ever go there, no matter how much comfort it gave.

"Alright," He said and decided to light a cigarette as they walked. He inhaled slowly and blew the smoke out of his nose.
"So you gonna tell me why you're in trouble or no?" He looked down at her. "I know it ain't none of my business, but I really don't need another shit storm in Brooklyn."

"I think I'll be staying out of Brooklyn from now on," she said coolly. But after a moment or two, it occurred to her that he had helped her, and hadn't asked for any "reward" yet--and besides, that answer might not satisfy him, and she really didn't want him digging up any dirt on her. "There's someone I'm afraid of. That's why I asked about a gun. It was stupid. I couldn't even use one."
She would give anything for one, and use it in a heartbeat.

"Listen, if it ever gets really bad come back to Brooklyn, tell Spot that Tristan said it would be alright." He remarked as he walked, he lit a cigarette.

"Thanks," she said, somewhat less stiffly than before, and walked in silence for a while. She could see the bridge in the distance now. "Is there, uh...a lot of fighting in Brooklyn, usually? I mean...have you ever..." Not that he'd know what she meant. Not that he'd tell her even if he did.

"Fighting? Yea...every once in awhile someone thinks they can be Spot Conlon or have what he has. Guys crave it, the influence and control...I think they believe its brooklyn that gives him the power, but that ain't it...its him." Tristan looked over at her. "I've always done what I had to do."

She glanced at him, then back at the bridge. Sebastian once told her some story about how demons couldn't cross running water. If only that were true of dark secrets.
"Me too," she said simply.

Tristan nodded and started to cross the bridge with her. He lit a cigarette.

The cigarette smoke reminded her of Goblin again. She could only imagine what he would say about Brooklyn, opium dens, and burly strangers who might or might not have guns escorting her home.
As they crossed into Manhattan, she picked out a dingy apartment building and sidled up to it. "This is my stop," she said, and sent him a quick, skittish glance. "I'll, uh...remember what you said...about Brooklyn. If I need to."

"Alright and don't feel strange about taking me up on the offer. We house a lot of kids who need protection," He made a point to say that. "See ya around...and watch out for Blue, he's got his eye on you and that ain't never a good thing." He remarked before turning to go.

Oh, she would look out for him, all right. The last thing she needed was another name on her little...list. She didn't want this guy worrying about her, though--she would much rather he just forget about her.
"Don't worry," she said lightly. "I can disappear." And, swiftly and silently, she did.
