Monday settled onto a crate by the docks, his ever-present cigarette dangling out of the corner of his mouth, and surveyed the scene in front of him. The docks were always crawling with people, and it was good place to sit and watch without being noticed.
Priest and his boys had had some good news this morning. A couple of hooligans -- maybe they were Priest's boys, and maybe they weren't, nobody could prove anything -- had roughed up a few buildings near their Brooklyn headquarters. The frightened tenants, with some gentle prodding, had come to Priest for help. Loans, yes, and even protection from those mysterious thugs.
Monday had to laugh at that, when he'd heard it. Those poor sods were seeking protection from the very people they needed protecting from.

"Ya found me again, Monday," Jimmy said, coming up beside him.

Monday glanced over at Jimmy as he walked up, then lifted his head in a brief nod of acknowledgement. "Accidentally, this time," he admitted blandly.

"Oh I see," Jimmy said with a smirk. "I'm planning on stopping by to see Priest tomorrow...to discuss my employment."

"Glad to hear it," Monday told him, lifting an eyebrow. That was true enough, every Brooklyn boy that joined up was one more step closer to becoming a solid presence.

"You don't think Spot'll get a whiff of this do ya? If he does..." Jimmy whistled, "I'd probably be in big trouble ya know?"

"Priest isn't doing anything to make Conlon upset," Monday said. "At least, not yet." He smirked a little.

Jimmy smirked back at him, "good just covering my own ass."

"We aren't that stupid," Monday assured him, then paused and smirked, "at least, most of us aren't. When Conlon gets involved, it makes trouble for everybody. That's what I've heard."

"Depends on what he's involved in," Jimmy said with a shrug.

"Well, it'll be better for us and for him if he doesn't get involved." Monday took out his cigarettes and offered one to Jimmy.

Jimmy took the offered cigarette and lit it. "Don't worry, he won't get wind of anything."

"I have t'ask, though, Jimmy," Monday said carefully as he put his cigarettes back in his vest pocket. "You do know the kind of work you'd be doin' for Priest, right?"

"Not entirely, so I wanna meet with him first, get it all ironed out..." He said.

Monday hesitated -- it wasn't often he had a pang of conscience, but this was a Brooklyn kid, and if anything he should knew what kind of work a loan shark would ask of him. "He doesn't beat around the bend, he'll tell you exactly what you need to know."
