"He doesn't need to suck his thumb! My little brother did it, and his teeth never looked right," he said, eyebrows raised.

Maggie gave him a look. "Mike, he's not even two yet, his teeth will be fine." She leaned up and kissed him. "Just try to distract him when you pull his thumb out, okay? Don't just do it, because he gets upset."

Mike just sighed, chuckling a little. Maggie was always so worried about upsetting Chris. He hated to tell her that he was going to get upset over a lot of things that she had no control over. So why even worry about it? But that made her upset, so he had stopped telling her that.
"Okay, I'll try," he assured her, leaning down to blow a raspberry on Chris's cheek.

Chris giggled and he reached out for Mike-- all was forgiven.
Maggie smiled. Some people might say that she spoiled Chris, but she didn't care. After the terrifying experience of her first pregnancy, she had been nervous all nine months. As far as she was concerned, Christopher was her miracle baby.

Mike took him, throwing him over his shoulder, holding him tightly. Then he quickly pressed his lips to Maggie's temple. "I love you, Mags."

She smiled. "I love you too, Mike." She moved to kiss his lips. "Go play with the baby. I'll call you when dinner's ready."

Mike moved to cover Chris's ears, but they were out of reach so he pinched Maggie's butt instead. "He's not a b-a-b-y anymore, thank you very much!" he said, looking extremely offended.

She almost snorted and patted Mike's cheek. "Of course he's not, dear." She sent him a wink. "Now go play with the not-baby."

"Y'hear that, Christopher?" Mike said, glancing back over his shoulder as he walked out into the living room. "You're a not-baby!" Chris repeated the phrase, and Mike roared with laughter.

Maggie laughed and set to work finishing dinner, serving plates for her and Mike, and one for Chris. "Dinner's ready!" She called out as she served them all lemonade.

Mike chased Chris back into the kitchen, grabbing at his stomach and tickling him. "Gotcha, little monster!" he cried before lifting him up into his high chair then sitting down in his own seat.

Maggie mushed up some potatoes and carrots, cutting little bits of the pork roast and setting the plate on Chris' high chair.
"Me do it!"
"Alright, you feed yourself. Don't make a mess." She gave him a spoon, then sat between Chris and Mike, smiling. "He hardly lets me feed him at all anymore."

"He's growing up, that's for sure," Mike replied in between bites of food. "Seems like he gets bigger every time I come home from work."

She gave Chris a fond look, and sighed, sniffling a little. "My baby..."

Mike reached over, setting his hand on the back of her neck and rubbing her there. "We can always have another one..."
