The lodging house was quiet in the mornings when everyone was out selling. Normally, Birdie wouldn't mind the privacy -- there was such a bustle of activity in the evenings after the newsies returned, and when she was at Irving Hall, there was a constant roar of sound and movement. It was enough to make you dizzy, really. But sometimes she felt a bit lonely, cooped up in the house while everyone was outside in the flurry of the city. Today, she couldn't seem to shake the feeling.
She was supposed to be practicing the violin for tonight's show, but she couldn't focus. Instead, she looked around the attic at the jumbled bits of old furniture and ratty blankets and decided to clean.

Jack lifted his head up as he came out of his peaceful slumber. He groaned and rolled over onto his back. Yes he missed the morning edition and did he care? No. He didn't. He head things moving upstairs. He sat up. What the hell?

First she threw open the window to let in some light. Next, she went to the stack of blankets in the corner. Picking one up, she shook it to fling off the dust, coughing as a cloud of it rose up in the air.
"Goodness," she muttered to herself, waving the dust particles out of her face.

Jack managed to get himself out of bed and then walk down the bunk room. Then he climbed the stairs and opened the door. He immediately started coughing from all the dust.

Birdie glanced up at the sound of the door opening and smiled over at Jack. "Good mor--" she managed before she sneezed.

Jack laughed and then he sneezed as well, "Ugh...what're you doing?"

"I was going to clean," she said, wrinkling her nose as she could feel another sneeze building up. "I thought everyone had gone out to sell."

"I kind of intentionally overslept," Jack said with a shrug. "This room is a disaster," he said, stepping into the attic.

Birdie giggled, then nodded and folded up the blanket in her hands and carried it over to the window. "It doesn't look like anyone's cleaned up here in ages."

"Nah, cause we're all a bunch of disgusting boys," Jack said with a laugh.

"Seems like it," she said as she looked around, then shook the blanket out over the window, leaning away from it as it deposited more dust outside.

Jack laughed, "well at least let me help," he found some more old blankets and carried them to the window.

Birdie shook out blankets and folded them in a pile next to the window. She smiled over at him brightly. "Why did you intentionally sleep in?" she asked.

"Well, I made some good money yesterday and decided to take the morning off and sell the evening edition," He wagged a blanket out the window and coughed.

"I didn't wake you up, did I?" she asked, furrowing her brow. "I really thought everyone was out, otherwise I would have been quieter."
