Specs bounded down the steps of the lodging house towards the lobby. Peeking to make sure no one was around, Specs slowly inched his way towards the desk, eyeing the pencil on the ledger. Looking through each drawer one by one, Specs hunted for spare paper, anything to write on.
"Aha!" he said joyously, finding a dirty but unused stack of paper hidden in the back drawer behind the desk. Grabbing two sheets of paper and the pencil on the desk, Specs positioned himself on the ground as he hid behind the desk.
Dear family... he scribbled, not to sure of what kind of story he should come up with this time. So much for living the grand life of a student in New York. Oh well.

Jack came rushing down the stairs, jumping off the last two. He was running late that afternoon and knew he'd be last online for at the DO.
He paused at the foot of the stairs when he saw Specs. "Heya Specs."

Specs flinched upon hearing Jack's voice, sending the hand he was using to write to jump and scribble a messy line at the end of the world "family". Great.
"Hey Jack!" shouted Specs as he pocketed the paper and pencil in hand. He stood up from behind the desk and gave him an awkward wave.

Jack raised an eyebrow at him. "Whatcha doin behind the desk?" It wasn't really his business, it just seemed strange and Specs was extremely jumpy.

"Lookin' for this," stammered Specs as he held up the pencil for Jack to see. "Just needed to sign the ledger..."
He had known Jack for a while but Specs wasn't one to share much about himself, especially not about this.

"I'm planning to," answered Specs, relieved that Jack wasn't too curious about his behavior as he wrote both his and Jack's name down on the ledger. "Everythin' goin' well with you?"

"As good as it can be...what with Brooklyn going completely batty, but other than that everythings normal." Jack said with a shrug.
"I got a question for you," Jack took a seat on the bottom step. "If you really liked a girl, I mean more than just some dumb broad you wanted to shack up with, how would you go about getting her? I'm terrible at this shit."

"That's as good as normal around here," said Specs, half-jokingly. Upon hearing Jack's question, however, Specs couldn't help but look at him in confusion.
"You got your eye on a girl, Jack?" he asked, leaning against the desk to face him. "Y'know, you can always talk to her first, right?"

"Well yeah I mean, we talk all the time, but things are finally at that next level ya know?" Jack said and then sighed. "We kissed, but now it's sort of all weird ya know? Like we don't know what the hell we're doin."

"Weird? You liked it, right?" asked Specs. He wasn't much of an advice-giver, especially when it came to girls. His attempts always ended badly and he wasn't too sure what happen with Tag. In his point of view, he and Jack were both in the same situation.

"Y'know, Jack, I really don't know..." said Specs, chuckling. "I'm just as lost as you are when it comes to girls. You think she's interested then you're not sure and... it's just messy."
