"I'll be fine," she sighed, upset that Mush was now dragged into her problems. "Can we just go home?" Ershey looked at him with pleading eyes, completely tired and worried at the same time.

"Yeah, of course." Mush replied softly before heading off toward the house, his arm around Ershey's shoulders.

Ershey stayed quiet as they walked towards the lodging house. She couldn't help but feel a bit jumpy, looking at alleys and checking if any tall suspicious looking men were around. Once they reached the lodging house, Ershey led Mush up the attic, craving some alone time. She laid a blanket on the floor before lying down and curling up comfortably.

Ershey laid her head on his shoulder, moving closer as she wrapped her arm around stomach. "Please don't scare me like that again," she said quietly with worry in her voice. "If Blink hadn't come..."

"I could've taken him! You know how strong I am." Mush replied with a quiet laugh. He brushed back Ershey's hair with the hand that was around her shoulders, kissing her forehead softly.

"Still," she persisted, looking up at him with watery eyes. She refused to think of the worst possible situation. "He could've done worse..."

"I think he did enough damage to himself by punching me in the stomach. His hand probably hurts like nothin' else." Mush tried to make his voice sound reassuring. He didn't like seeing Ershey so worried because of him.

Mush put his finger underneath her chin, pushing it up to force her to look at him.
He wanted to say so much, but he found himself at a loss for words. So, he just kissed her.

Ershey kissed him back softly, amazed at how relaxed he can make her feel in an instant. She was finally glad to be away from everyone else and spend time with Mush.

In the back of his head, Mush was thinking 'I love this girl.' But he knew it was crazy. Nobody could be in love after just a few days. Plus, she would probably freak out and then he would lose her forever. No, he was just imagining it. He wanted to love her, and one day he would.
"Was there ever a time when I didn't know you?" He asked with a laugh. "It seems like I've known you forever..."

"Hey!" Mush replied, frowning at her teasingly. "I'm offended by that! I was just sayin' what came into my head!"

"I know," said Ershey reassuringly. "Just 'cause I'm teasin' doesn't mean I didn't think it was cute." She cuddled into his arms, finally feeling comfortable.
