Personality: David is intelligent and honest—it doesn’t even occur to him to lie in most situations. While he himself is honest, he knows that many people aren’t the same way, which is why he’s wary of letting new people into his life. Some would say he’s cynical, but he prefers the term realistic. If you manage to earn his trust and then betray it, he’ll be devastated, but he ultimately cannot hold a grudge. He’s proud (and doesn’t take charity from anyone!) and a little judgmental at times, but he’s incredibly loyal and he loves his family more than anything. He’s particularly protective of Sarah and Les, but he’s felt responsible for his whole family since he became the main breadwinner. He’s careful with his money and doesn’t like to spend lavishly, though he will occasionally splurge on presents for other people.
Hobbies and interests: Though he’s not in school anymore, David still enjoys reading and learning, and he often studies on his own at night. After the strike, he’s been particularly interested in becoming a journalist or an editor, so he also spends a lot of free time writing.
Bad habits, criminal record, etc: None, really. The other newsies sometimes give him shit for being a good boy with a stick up his butt and not breaking any rules, but they all know he’s relaxed a bit since the strike.

Background info: David was a typical schoolboy, studying hard so he could continue on to a university, until his father lost his job at the factory and David had to drop out and support his family. To be honest, he was a bit apprehensive about starting work as a newsie—he knew it was definitely the worst job he could be doing, but being used to his functional family and generally better-off living circumstances, he wasn’t sure how to interact with all the vagrants and homeless kids that were known to make up the newsies. Obviously, though, he got over that relatively quickly, and now he’s got lots of friends yaaaaay.

Date and place of birth: September 29, 1889
Personality: Les is eager, trusting, gullible, excitable, optimistic, and any other word that describes a typical ten-year-old kid. He’ll do anything he’s told, especially by Jack or David, which sometimes gets him into trouble. He likes adventures and candy and getting dirty; he doesn’t like his big sister Sarah because she often makes him learn or do chores. He can fall asleep anywhere, no matter the noise, a skill which many admire him for.
Hobbies and interests: Les enjoys playing with his wooden sword and selling papes—hell, it’s a game to him. He likes hanging out with the other newsboys and listening to all their stories.
Bad habits, criminal record, etc: Sometimes he drinks for money.
Employment: Newsie, occasional pirate
Background info: Les was much more excited than David to start working as a newsie, and that excitement hasn’t really worn off yet. He isn’t really looking forward to going back to school, and he thinks he would really much rather be a newsie for the rest of his life.
