Race sank down beside her, for once having no idea what to say. He understood why she was frustrated, and why Spot was mad--honestly, he wasn't sure who needed comforting more right now. But Spot would probably murder Race if he made an attempt to follow. Still... "I could go after him if you want," he offered, draping an arm around Raven and offering her a literal shoulder to cry on.

"No, it wont make a difference, he doesn't understand." Raven sobbed onto his shoulder.

Race rubbed her back and sighed inwardly--she'd been happy lately, doing so much better, and now this. Why did Brooklyn couples have to be so loud and dramatic all the time? He genuinely didn't understand their inability to settle things with civil conversation. "You know he'll probably come back, Rae. Might be a while, though." ((Totally random, but this thread is giving me sad flashbacks to my first lodging-house character ever, who also got overwhelmed and took off for a while without telling her boyfriend, and he also broke up with her. And then she attempted suicide. ))

"I know," She sniffled and wiped at her nose, before looking at Race. "But...I might not want him then," She said. "Maybe we are really over?"

"I dunno," Race said softly. "Maybe." He tried for a comforting smile. "Well, who needs Brooklyn, anyway? All the best people leave."

Raven wiped her face and half smiled. "I wouldn't say all the best...some of them though." She affectionately squeezed his cheek. Raven wiped her nose on her sleeve.
"Everyone else is staring, ain't they?" She whispered.
((NOW she's worried about it? LOL))

Race glanced at the various random newsies standing around the lobby. "Go away," he said, and they scattered. "Not anymore," he announced, and offered Raven a handkerchief for the second time in the past couple weeks.

Raven blew her noises and gave a shuddery sigh. "You ever get tired of fighting, even when you love someone?" Raven said as she plopped down into a chair. Her face was all splotchy and her eyes were red from crying.

Race leaned against the arm of her chair and nodded. "Fighting, or keeping secrets, or lots of awkward silences...it all gets tiring."

Raven folded his handkerchief into a very tiny square and looked up at him. "He's so selfish sometimes, all he cared about was that I hurt him...but not how badly I'd been hurting before I came here." She stared at the hanky again and then wiped her nose.

"He cares, Rae. He's just too mad to show it. He prob'ly thought something happened to you, and...well, if you left Manhattan without a word tomorrow, and I thought you might be dead, and then I finally found you in Brooklyn, I'd prob'ly be mad, too," he admitted. "It's just...you were panicking, and I know that 'cause I was here when you showed up, but I don't think he sees it. He figures you were thinking straight and knew he'd be worried as hell and left anyway."

Raven groaned and rested her chin in her hands. "I am so...I am sad, don't get me wrong but in a weird way I'm kind of relieved...it's like I don't have any pressure anymore, I can just...get back to normal."

"I know what you mean." He fleetingly recalled the days before he met Sapphy, when life was at least somewhat simpler, but he knew he wouldn't trade Sapphy for simplicity. Then again, he hadn't been through what Rae had. "Hey, I'm relatively wealthy right now, so if you wanna go to the tracks sometime, or make fun of some amateur opera..."
