"I was thinking last night that it would be very nice of you to live. You've obviously done that, so there's really no need to repay me."
She didn't want Specs to feel like he owed her anything; it wasn't any trouble to look after him. Plus, she felt sorry for all the newsies without parents to tend to them. Her heart was just too big.

"But you were with me the whole day!" said Specs, shaking his head at her. He frowned, frustrated that he couldn't do anything to repay her back.
"How about... I treat you to breakfast?" he said after a couple moments once they were outside the lodging house.

"I finished my book, went to Tibby's with Zip for supper, considered going in to check on you, thinking better of it, and then I went to sleep." She had actually been quite exhausted. The combination of scurrying around making tea and soup and worrying about Specs had taken a toll on Tag.

"Sounds like you had a long day," said Specs a bit sadly, hating how he had her running around because of him. He led her towards a nearby cafe, nothing too fancy but good enough for toast and coffee to start off the morning.

Before they stepped inside, Tag stopped him and turned him to face her.
"Don't sound like that. I was perfectly happy to look after you yesterday." She said seriously, almost pleading with him. "I would have been worse off if I'd gone and done my own thing. I would have been worrying about you too much. So don't you dare think you were a burden, Ryan Lane."

Specs couldn't help but smile at her as he listened, amazed at how he got so lucky to end up with a girl like her. He gently kissed her on the forehead and said, "Alright, alright, I'll stop. I'm just really grateful, that's all."
