"But things are better now," said Ershey reassuringly, trying to catch his eye. "Ericson's gone.. no one'll come after us, I swear."
She felt guilty for making Mush feel this way. Maybe I should've prepped him ahead of time about what we were going to do about Ericson...

"No, I know." He replied, nodding. "I just... I ain't never seen a man die before..." He'd seen kids beaten by the bulls, but none of them had ever died. Plus, Ericson deserved it more than those kids. But he was still shaken.

"Just let me know if somethin's botherin' you and we'll do somethin' to distract you, alright?" she said softly. Seeing a man die wasn't easy, even if you didn't know the person. "Don't be scared to talk to me... I mean, I was the one who got you into all of this."

Mush just nodded, embarrassed about a lot of things. Embarrassed he wasn't being a man about things, embarrassed that he was telling Ershey all of this in a public place, embarrassed that he was too afraid to talk to her in the first place...

Ershey frowned sadly, feeling guilty for pulling him into her problems. He didn't have to deal with this. She felt as free as a bird but Mush was the opposite.
"Hey," she said quietly, pulling him in for a hug. She didn't care if anyone was looking. She just wanted him to be happy. "You know that I'm here for you, right?"

"Of course." He murmured, his face buried in her hair.
Mush lingered for a few more moments before pulling away. "Wanna go look at the fancy jewelry section? You can tell me which ones you want, and I can pretend to get them for you."

"Okay!" said Ershey as she did a small jump in the air, excited to see pretty things. Maybe one day, she could have something shiny and expensive-looking...

After walking around the whole museum at least two times, Mush was finally exhausted.
"That was honestly the best day ever." He said to Ershey as they walked outside. He was surprised to find that the sun was nowhere in sight. Had they really spent that long in there?

"Well, I'm glad you liked it," said Ershey, feeling quite proud of herself. She'd wanted to make up all the trouble she put Mush through during the past couple of weeks. It was crazy and she felt like he deserved something that would make him smile.

"Are you kidding? I loved it!" He was still excited about seeing everything, and he wished he could go back tomorrow.
He draped his arm over her shoulders and kissed her cheek.

"Good," she grinned, kissing him on the cheek. "Getting the tickets was definitely worth it to see you so happy about going inside the museum."

Mush felt so giddy and like a little kid again. He stopped walking and turned to offer Ershey a piggy back ride.

Ershey first stared at Mush's back in confusion before realizing what he wanted her to do. Laughing, Ershey held onto his shoulders and jumped on his back, hugging him as they ran down the street.

Once they got closer to the Lodging House, Mush slowed down to a walk, holding onto the back of Ershey's knees tightly.
"Do we really have to go back to bein' newsies?"

"Hmm, well, the day's not over yet!" said Ershey as she continued to hold on to him. She was getting worried that he was tired from carrying her all around but he was so giddy that she didn't want to ruin his fun.
"Come dance with me... in the basement," she giggled, having way too much fun. They were both finally having a great day and Ershey wanted it to continue, if possible.
