"One of the boys was running his mouth, and I told him to shut it. He wouldn't and hit me, yelling about how nobody could tell him what to do," Spot explained, with a shrug. "I soaked him and that was the end of that."

Raven nodded. "Older or younger boy?" She was trying to figure him out. He was going to be her leader after all.

Spot frowned, shrugging. "Probably a bit older, but a lot bigger. But that ain't hard to be."

"Yea...you got the same problem I got, we're a little vertically challenged." Raven shrugged.

"Works to my advantage," Spot replied, shrugging a bit. "People don't expect me to beat the shit outta them."

"Exactly," she said with a smirk. Raven started walking back toward the lodging house.

Spot took one more look around.....all looked seemed quiet and peaceful tonight.
He walked into the house behind Raven, closing the door firmly and looking around the room. She was right, the guys were staring at her.
"Hey! What are ya lookin' at!" Spot shouted at Red, one of the older newsboys.
"N-nothing Spot..."
"Yeah right. Don't be rude." Spot figured calling out one of the newsies would call an end to the whole thing. Maybe now he can go have some peace and quiet and lay down for awhile.

Raven shook her head and then turned to face Spot. "G'night Spot." She said and headed up the stairs to the girls bunkroom.

A few days later Raven was sitting on the edge of the dock, her toes grazing the water as she leaned back on her hands. She closed her eyes and raised her face to the sun.

"Why are you keeping Tristan here and having me run all over the goddamn city to meet the other runners?" Sammy complained to Spot on their way back from selling the morning edition.
"Because you are faster and nicer to people," Spot responded lazily, reaching into his pocket for his slingshot.
"Yeah but people think he's your second when we both are," Sammy pointed out, running a hand through his hair.
Spot noticed Raven dangling her feet in the water and patting Sammy on the shoulder, his eyes glued to Raven. "No they don't," he said firmly as he walked away towards Raven, sitting down next to her. Sammy glared at him and left the docks.
"Have you seen any Bronx newsies around here?" He asked, wondering if they were coming for her yet.

Raven actually yelped loudly and nearly jumped out of her skin when he just appeared next to her like that.
"Don't do that!" She screamed. She swallowed hard and just stared at him for a second catching her breath.
"N..no...no one yet."

"Good. My boys don't know what they look like, so it may be hard for them to identify one," Spot replied, not even skipping a beat. He took a cigarette out and lit it, taking a drag then handing it to her.

Raven took a deep long drag and then blew it out.
"Well that's reassuring," She replied and then turned to face him. "Hunter kinda looks like me just more boy-like and he's got green eyes. If that helps any. He's also tall...but everyone's tall to me." She shrugged.

"Would he come, or would he send someone?" Spot asked, knowing that if it was him he would definitely send someone. Simply on the principle of power. The better your rep, the more people who answered to you.
Spot decided that no matter what, he was definitely more powerful than any Bronx newsie leader.
