"You like poker too?" said Ershey excitedly as her eyes widened in awe. She was making her way towards Mush's usual selling spot when she ran into Risk, who seemed as if he was having trouble walking straight. Figuring he needed some help, she ushered him towards a nearby bench and were now caught in a heated conversation.
"Of course!" said Risk beaming. "I can play for hours!"

Mush had just finished selling the morning edition. He was making his way over to Ershey's selling spot, smiling and humming a jaunty tune. He spotted her and raised his hand to wave excitedly at her. But he stopped. ...Who was that?
He approached them, his face grim. "Hello."

"Mush!" grinned Ershey, standing up from her seat to give him a kiss on the cheek. "This is the guy I was tellin' you about." She smiled proudly, looping her arm with his, completely unaware of Mush's unhappy face.
"Right," nodded Risk as he stood. "We've met at the bunkroom before. Sock guy, right?"

"Yeah." Mush replied, crossing his arms over his chest and looking back and forth between Ershey and Risk.
"...So. What's going on here?"

Risk raised his eyebrow at Mush. He'd seen that look before. It was the same one from when he asked about his girlfriend.
"Ershey helped me find the bench," said Risk simply. "I wasn't feelin' too well, so here I am."
Ershey simply nodded, looking at Mush expectantly. "He's hungover. I felt bad."

Mush simply raised an eyebrow, not moving an inch.
"...Right."

Finally catching onto Mush's temper, Ershey began nudging him away.
"Right, uh, so we'll be goin' Risk!" said Ershey, putting on her best smile. "We'll see you 'round!"
Risk's brows furrowed in confusion but he quietly waved at them as he remained on the bench.

Mush finally relented to her nudging and walked away. He waited for her to speak; there was no way he was going to say the first word.

Ershey patiently walked next to Mush, making sure they were far away and out of earshot before bringing up anything.
"Hey," she finally said after a couple moments, looking over at him. "You alright?"

"Yeah. Fine." He was obviously lying. He didn't so much as glance over at her; the image of her smiling and laughing with Risk was still fresh in his mind. He could kill that bastard.

"Mush, we were just talkin'..." started Ershey. Her voice was small and she was nervous as hell. She hated it when Mush got too protective and this was one of this times.

"I don't think he had just talkin' on his mind, Ersh." He said shortly, kicking a pine cone that was lying on the ground.

"He's a newsie, Mush. I've seen him around the house before... it's not like he's some random stranger," she said, shrugging.

"Oh, I know who he is. And that's exactly why I don't trust him."

"What? What do you mean?" asked Ershey in confusion. "He's a nice guy, Mush. What's wrong?"
