"Thanks," Beth said grudgingly, collapsing in a kitchen chair. She leaned back and closed her eyes. "Can you try and hunt Tristan down tomorrow to give him the news? I've got that audition." She knew she should go pick up Jo from Ershey and Mush's place, but she couldn't bring herself to get up again yet.

"Of course," nodded Risk, opening the drawer and taking out two mugs before glancing over at her. "Tired? Let's just have Jo stay over at Ershey's, alright? I'm sure they won't mind."

She sighed and nodded. "Yeah, all right. They just better have kids someday so we can pay 'em back for all they do. I wonder if Jo ever gets confused about who's actually part of her fam'ly," she said with a smirk, finally opening her eyes and eagerly awaiting the tea.

"I think she's glad she has a lot of people to call family," he chuckled, placing a tea bag in each mug as he waited for the water to boil. "And I'm sure those two will have kids someday. They're probably just hiding them and not telling us."

She snorted with laughter at the image of Ershey and Mush hiding a brood of children in some closet, then caught herself and crossed her arms, assuming her usual scowl. "I'm still mad at you."

Risk frowned and stared at his feet shyly. He knew what he did wrong but he hated admitting it. "Yeah, I know," he said quietly before reaching over and pouring the hot water in their mugs. He set it down on the table and took a seat next to her. "Sorry..."

"Mmm-hmm," she grumbled, wrapping her hands around the hot mug and blowing on her tea. And thinking that it was actually kind of decent of him not to start bringing up all the times she'd gotten them into dire trouble. After a minute or two, she sipped her tea and shrugged. "Ain't that big a deal, really. Archer'll prob'ly let it drop." He wasn't exactly the crazed homicidal type.

"You sure he won't be looking me up and planning a surprise visit at my work?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at her.

"Archer ain't too keen on police stations," she assured him. "I'd steer clear of dark alleys for a while, though." She took a long gulp of tea and kind of shuddered with pleasure as its warmth flowed through her. It was the key to the heart of anyone with British blood.

"Feel better?" he asked, taking a sip of his tea and smiling over at Beth. It'd been a long day and he was glad he could finally relax.

"Marginally." She sat back, caressing the mug, and said out of absolutely nowhere, "Ershey keeps saying we should get married."

Risk scoffed. "Adri thinks everyone should get married. What do you think about it?" he asked curiously. He could never define what they really were but he liked the way things were.

"I think it's stupid," she said frankly, "and we're all right now. Long as we don't lose Jo, but I always kinda assumed you could make sure of that. And," she added with a smirk that was slightly worried nonetheless, "long as you don't run off and leave me one'a these days when our life takes one too many 'interesting' turns."

Risk frowned, raising an eyebrow at her. "Who said I was going to leave you?"

"No one. It's a frequent irrational fear of mine," she mumbled. Even after several years of pretty consistent happiness with Alec and Jo, she still hadn't gotten over her tendency to expect that the bottom would drop out of any good thing at any moment.
