Name: Lillian Wellsley
NN (if applicable): Tag Along, or simply Tag
Age: 16
Date and place of birth: September 1 in London, England
Personality: Tag is easily the shyest newsgirl. She has a very hard time meeting new people and unless she's with someone she really knows and trusts, she rarely speaks. Selling papes on the streets of New York, however, sees Tag as a whole 'nother person. She hawks the headlines like there's no tomorrow and usually has no trouble selling all her papes by early afternoon. Tag feels the most comfortable when she's selling papers or around animals and children. She loves animals of all kinds, even rats and snakes. If she sees a wounded bird on the sidewalk, she will bring it back to the Lodging House and nurse it back to health. The same goes for a dear friend who is wounded or sick. Tag is always more than happy to cut her working day in half to tend to her ill friends. In a word, she is very nurturing. Tag mainly just goes about her own business, reading or daydreaming, until someone asks if she wants to tag along somewhere. She always says 'yes,' hence the nick name. While the quietness and daydreaming can throw some people off, Tag is actually extremely bright. She got a top education in London, plus a year of girls' school in New York. She always got top marks and was set to be the valedictorian of her class.
Hobbies and interests: Above anything else, Tag loves reading. She'll read anything! Books about nature, animals, presidents, fairy tales, silly romance stories... anything she can get her hands on in the library. Whenever she has a spare hour or two, you can find Tag at the New York public library. Tag is also an excellent sewer. She can hem and patch clothes in a jiffy and it's never a problem. It's finding a good needle and the right color thread that's the problem. So, Tag is always on the lookout for cheap needles and thread in fabric stores (as well as secondhand books). Of course, Tag also loves to go to the theater, walk around New York, people watch, etc etc.
Bad habits, criminal record, etc: Tag is very self-conscious. She is obsessed with the way she looks and is never happy with her hair. It never curls just the way she wants, and there is nothing she can ever do to save it. Tag is also very sensitive when it comes to swearing and whatnot. Weird for a newsgirl, probably, but she's trying (somewhat) to get over it. Because of her education, Tag has a bad habit of correcting people's grammar. It gets extremely annoying even to her, but it's become instinct. She can't help it!
Employment: Tag works as a newsgirl for the New York World and picks up the odd shift at a seedy used book store.
Background info (please include family as well): Tag was born in England and only moved to New York last year with her mother, father, and younger sister. Her father got a new, better job offer as an accountant in New York, so he uprooted his family and their lives to move to the city that never sleeps. Tag took a while to adapt, but she was finally beginning to be quite happy in New York. One day, however, she came home from school to find her house burned almost to the ground. Her parents and sister were inside and didn't make it. She had no relatives, and none of her school friends would take her in since she was no longer wealthy and an orphan. After a few nights on the street, Tag stumbled into a Lodging House, thinking it was simply a hotel for poor people. Turned out, she was right, and now she's a newsie for Mr. Pulitzer himself.
