"Mine succumbed to the weather," Sapphy sighed. "I should think about getting a bag, too."

[Racetrack]

"They're very handy. You can get 'em at the distribution center. Only two cents, so you earn it back quick enough." He glanced at Blink. "So are you gonna come to the tracks? You still got a bunch of papes left, right?" And you should sell 'em. Somewhere else. 'Cause you're scared of horses.

[Kid Blink]

Yeah, right, like the horses are the reason I shouldn't tag along.

Blink smirked at Race knowingly. "Yeah-Yeah. I'm pretty much losing all my money staying here at Tibby's."

[Racetrack]

Race beamed and clapped Blink on the back and remembered why they were the very best of friends. "So hard-working," he pointed out to Sapphire. "Wish I could find that kind of dedication." The waiter showed up to leave the bill on the table. Race scooped a handful of change out of his pocket and studied it, wondering how generous he could be with the tip and still have enough left for a decent bet.

Sapphy put her money down on the table. She had been taught by her mother to tip generously -- sometimes too generously -- which she always did.

Her tip fairly much covered the three of them.

"So, let's go shall we? Lodging house?"

[Racetrack]

Race paid his bill and added a couple cents to the tip so he wouldn't feel like a chump. "Let's go!" he agreed, slinging his bag over his shoulder and stomping out his spent cigar. One of the waiters gave him a dirty look, and he quickly pocketed the stub before following his new friend out of the restaurant.
