Script locked her fingers with his and ran, silently praying that they would get out in time. When they reached the fence, she groaned inwardly and started to climb. She swore to herself she wouldn't climb so much as a fire-escape for days if she could help it. She swung her leg over the top and shimmied down, dashing over to Jack.

With a great effort, Goblin managed not to burst out laughing...as he strolled right through the open gate. Then he glanced over his shoulder at Tara--who still had the groundskeeper enthralled with the flower bush--and hurried over to join Jack and Script. "Hey," he said nonchalantly, like this sort of thing happened every day.

She very nearly hit him, so intent was she on getting out, she hadn't noticed the gate remained unlocked. She let out a huff of breath, pushing hair from her face and all-out pouting at this point. "Next date, I get to pick what we do." Oh, yes, this was a date, whether he liked it or not. No man got her to haul her ass up a damn tree and call it a friendly encounter.

He heaved a sigh. She was not giving up. He'd made her climb gates and trees and ladders and slide down banisters and her intentions clearly hadn't changed. "Fine--if you tell me where you learned those lock-picking skills."

She lifted a shoulder. "I went to Catholic school." She said it like that was enough of an answer, then smirked at him. She wasn't able to hide her blush. "We used to sneak the Holy wine out of the priests' chambers. It was never my idea, mind you. But I was the only one who figured out how to pick the lock with a hair pin."

Jack smirked and waved, watching her enter the building on the grounds keepers arm. He shook his head, shoved his hands in his pockets and started to walk toward the lodging house.
She was something, a little wild, nice, strange too. He shrugged.

"And here I thought you had an exciting double life as a cat burglar!" Goblin grinned. He was actually rather relieved that Script's talent had such innocent origins. He had more than enough criminal stuff to deal with.
Watching Jack walk off without so much as a word to them, he turned back to Script and shook his head. "I think he's fallen under the spell of Tara Fields. The poor guy." He started after him at a bit of a distance, not wanting to interrupt the daydreams.

Script followed along with him, automatically taking hold of his hand, interlocking their fingers together. "You've seen me climb. I'd get caught." She looked up in the distance at Jack's retreating form. "Let him fall. Falling's fun." She shot him a sielong look, wetting her lips a bit.

"Not when you fall back out again," Goblin muttered, letting her hold his hand but not really holding hers back.

She studied him a minute, thinking. "It's a risk you have to take. You can never know how things'll end, but it's a shame not to give things a chance because you're too worried about the future." She lifted her shoulder a little. "'Better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all,' and all that, ya know?"

"You know it's the guy who's supposed to use the cheesy lines, right?" he teased, but he smiled at her, and his fingers actually tightened around hers just a little. Then he sighed and looked off into the distance as he once again tried to figure out how much to tell her. "Look, I know this is also kind of an overused line, but...I was in a bad relationship not too long ago, at a bad time, in a really bad place...and that's actually just one small part of the reason why I'm not jumping right into this."

She nodded, listening to him, giving his hand a little squeeze. "Goblin, please don't feel like I'm gonna push you into something you don't want." She bit her lip, stopping them so she could face him. "I know I can be...determined." She gave him a weak smile. "I just..there's something about you...ya know..?"

"I don't really know," he said with a laugh, "but there's something about you, don't get me wrong. I mean, first the baking, then the dancing, then the crazy adventures...your determination's actually paying off." He took a step closer and looked at her seriously. "And I do owe you a date. You get to pick the place, if I recall correctly."

She blushed, smiling, biting her lip as she looked up at him. "You don't have to take me out...if you don't want to..." She didn't want to push him or scare him away. She wanted to make him feel comfortable, confident. And if she ended getting her way, make him feel adored.

"I want to," he assured her. "I think you're maybe kind of crazy for wanting to go out with me, but I'm definitely up for it. Just...don't take it the wrong way if I take things slow, all right?"
