She laughed warmly at the thought of Goblin feeding a dozen stray cats. "Your brother's definitely something." She smiled, biting her lip. "You don't mind me going after him, do you?"

She shook her head fervently, then hesitated. Normally, she'd have left it at that, but something had been making her a little bolder lately, a little bit less of a frightened mess--probably a combination of Kennedy and the odd little Brooklyn family she'd been worming her way into. "I...I kind of mind that he said more to you in a night than he's said to me in the past couple weeks, but that's not your fault. I think he just needed someone new to shake him out of his...mood."
Like I have a right to talk. Like I tell him anything anymore. God, I should tell him about Kennedy. And she decided, right then and there, that she would, at the first opportunity.

Script looked at her, considering. She didn't want anyone -- especially Wraith -- to feel put out by this budding relationship she very badly wanted. "I think he wants to share more with you, but sometimes sharing with family is harder than sharing with other people. You're more considered with being a disappointment to them." She smiled at her. "But you should also know that I was awfully pushy and he probably said more than he had planned to."

"That's my problem, then," Wraith said with a hint of amusement. "I'm not very pushy." Except when it comes to cops. "Thanks for the cupcakes, by the way. Keep it up and you'll have the whole lodging house eating out of your hand. Literally."

"Oh, no problem, anytime." She laughed. "I think it was my cookies that got your brother to talk to me at all. You know what they say about the way to a man's heart." She got up from her chair. "You're staying in Brooklyn, right? You can take some back with you when you go, if you want."

She looked up in surprise, blushing again as her stutter suddenly became about ten times worse. "I--I'm not really--did Goblin say I was staying there? Because that's not exactly...well...it's just..." Good grief, Clara, pull yourself together. "I have friends there," she explained a bit squeakily, "and they've got an apartment and everything...and I'm sure they'd love some cookies, so...thanks!"
Her desire to move into that apartment was getting stronger by the day, and there were at least three or four good reasons it couldn't happen. And the sudden realization that Script could maybe help her out with a couple of them made her all the more flustered.

She quirked a brow, but only smiled, packing a paper sack full of a variety of cookies, cupcakes and brownies she had made in the last day or so. "Well, whatever the case, I bet they'd like if you showed up with baked goods." She sent her a smile. "Tell them you helped me make them." She put the bag on the counter, then turned to lean against it, looking at her. "Goblin only mentioned you'd been spending time there, I assumed the rest." She smiled again, knowingly. "That where your beau is?" Apparently, Script made a lot of assumptions.

Beau. Well, of course. Who else could a girl be in love with but a boy? She resisted the urge to burst into terrified giggles. "Th-there's, uh...maybe someone...in Brooklyn...not the guy who lives in the apartment, though! He's married," she added quickly. The last thing she needed was for that little misunderstanding to crop up again.

"I didn't figure you for much of a home-wrecker, anyway." She smiled, but eyed her curiously, then quirked a brow as a thought hit her. She'd gone to an all-girls' Catholic school. And wasn't stupid. "Well, I'm sure your...special someone is a lovely person." She picked up a cookie, the picture of causal. "And I'm sure she'll like the cookies."

Wraith stared at her for about ten seconds. Just stared, trying to convince herself she'd heard wrong.
Then she literally jumped up and ran for the door.

"Oh, damn it...Wraith! Wait!" She jumped up and ran after her, catching her before she reached the door, practically diving in front of her to block it. "Wraith, I'm sorry, that was totally not my place. Please." She looked at her, eyes pleading. "It's ok, I won't say anything."

Script was lucky Wraith was off her game due to intense shock, or she could have been out of there in the blink of an eye. She backed up and collapsed into a chair, actually shaking. It was almost worse than when Tristan found out, and he'd caught her and Kennedy in the bathtub together. But at least she knew Tristan. Had she really let her guard down enough to slip up this badly?
She hugged herself and pulled her knees up onto the chair, and after a while, managed to steady herself enough to talk. "You really won't tell?" she said in a tiny voice. This wasn't just about her. It was about Kennedy and Tara and even Goblin, who would probably go into militant overprotective mode if he knew that people were figuring out her secret. He'd always been terrified that she'd end up beaten or dead or thrown into some asylum, and she couldn't very well blame him.

Script looked at her, sympathy and apology swimming in her eyes. She knelt beside her, touching her arm gently. "Wraith, I'm sorry. It's none of my business, and it wasn't my place to say anything. I swear, I won't breath a word to anybody." She felt terrible. She thought that if she let it slip that she understood, Wraith wouldn't be so nervous and jumpy talking to her. "I had a friend back at school, Marnie. She was..." She smiled a little, "Well, she got along better with girls than boys. The point is, it's okay, and you can trust me."

Wraith looked up at her and tried to search her face the way Goblin would. All she saw was honest sympathy, but she'd never been able to read anyone. That would be why the only people she trusted were her brother, her lover, and a guy who saved her from a rapist in an opium den.
"I'll trust you if my brother does," she said at last, her voice still tiny. "I just...I've never told anyone. Never. The few people who know, they found out on their own. There are people who know things about me...awful things that I've done, and I'd never tell them that. It's..." There were tears in her eyes. Astonished, she swiped at them and turned away from Script. "It's like it's worse than anything. But I know it's not. It's just something that no one can talk about."

Without so much as a moment's hesitation, Script wrapped her arms around the smaller girl, cradling her a bit in her arms, trying to both soothe her and show her it's alright to cry at the same time. "Wraith...there's nothing wrong with you, you're fine, I promise." She brushed a hand over her hair lightly. She wasn't going to make her talk, not if she didn't want to. But she would be there for her. It had nothing to do with being Goblin's sister, either. It had everything to do with Wraith being a girl who'd had a rough life and needed a friend.
