"About Tristan," Beth said stiffly, "and how they shouldn't mention to him that I've got a niece who ain't dead." She kicked at a stone as they approached the bridge. "And no, I don't wanna talk to Spot. I'll talk to Raven. We're friends. Kinda. Even though she punched me in the face once." That was actually how a lot of her friendships began.

"Wait, what?" She punched her in the face? And something about a dead niece? Risk was fine escorting Macbeth to wherever she needed to go but putting the pieces together was still a bit difficult after having such an eventful night.

She rolled her eyes and stopped on the bridge, turning to face him. "Jo's my niece. Tristan is her father. He was fucking Ada back in Five Points two years ago. They was exclusive for a while and she's got his eyes, so there ain't much doubt. Tristan's interested in her, so I told him she was dead, 'cause I ain't gonna lose her. And Spot and Rae know about her, so I'm gonna ask 'em to keep quiet. Are we clear?"

Risk cleared his throat and nodded. "Yeah. Crystal."

"Great." She started walking again, then stopped and looked back at him. "Why are you even doing this?" She couldn't recall threatening him on this particular occasion.

"Well, uh..." started Risk, actually quite confused as to why he was so willing to wake up from a hangover to help Macbeth get Jo. What did Race say last night about Macbeth again? "'Cause I don't want you goin' alone all dressed up like this!"

She snorted. "Yeah, Risk. I'm sure I'll run into the one creep in Brooklyn who's interested in twelve-year-olds." She was tiny and baby-faced and had hardly any figure at all. "Also, I've got switchblades. Don't tell your cop friends."

"I'm sure they'll be fine. Cops can take care of themselves," said Risk, chuckling softly. He really didn't know why he was going through this much trouble... it was just Macbeth, right?

She eyed him suspiciously for a long moment before continuing to walk across the bridge. The East River gleamed way down below, grey and ominous. She didn't like Brooklyn much. It was just a wannabe Five Points as far as she was concerned--and yet it was almost more threatening, though she would never admit it, because it wasn't nearly as familiar to her.

Risk could immediately tell when they were finally in Brooklyn. The atmosphere was different and the glances were unsure. He'd only been here a couple of times but the feeling still got to him every once in a while.
"Where's Rae?" he asked impatiently.

"Couple blocks, like I said. And you being nervous? Not helping me." She strode past the docks, scowling at the Brooklyn newsboys who called out or whistled at her. They didn't scare her, but she had a paranoid notion that Tristan would suddenly rise up among them, though she knew he wasn't a newsie anymore.

"I'm just... hungry," he fibbed, gently taking her hand in his and shooting the Brooklyn newsboys a glare. "Let's just... not take all day."

She yanked her hand out of his. "Not drunk, not happening." Because she was damned if she would admit that she could really use some hand-holding right now. She quickened her pace so much that she was soon halfway down the first block, and had to wait for him to catch up.

She just rolled her eyes again and stood there with her arms crossed, waiting. When he caught up, she jerked her head at the next corner. "Right up that street. You don't gotta come in. You don't know either of 'em, right?" ((Haha, I know! But she's my favorite. I just can't wait to see where things go with these two.))
